dude are you kidding me ? kasier chiefs?bloc party???
meh, i cba , underground bands all the way
Queens of the Stone Age - Lullibies to Paralyze (love the bonus tracks you get w/ the vinyl set edition)
Opeth - Ghost Reveries (I love this one....see them live if you get the chance)
Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth (NIN's best so far, IMO)
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Beck - Guero
Sleater-Kinney - The Woods (probably my fav of '05 if I had to pick just one)
Sigur Rós - Takk... (seeing them in Feb. cannot wait)
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Stephen Malkmus - Face the Truth
Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Various Artists - Six Feet Under 'Everything Ends' (a stretch, but I liked this show a lot)
Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
Dandy Warhols - Odditorium... (another stretch, but there are a few good songs)
The only ranking I'm sure is...
1) Broken Social Scene
2) New Pornographers
3) Spoon
Also the Stars album was good, but I didn't buy it so I've only heard it a few times, it would probably be up there if I had bought it.
Bloc Party is overrated, a few GREAT songs mixed in with a lot of average songs. Just my opinon though, when they are on their game they are definitely an amazing band. Would most likely end up in a top 25 if I did one, but I feel there were a lot of better albums put out this year.
Other so-so albums are DMB, Foo Fighters, Weezer, OAR.
Audioslave Out of Exile
hmmmm what else was decent this year
run for your life
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl
The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
The Wallflowers - Rebel, Sweetheart
are my 4 favorite
2. White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
3. Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak
4. End of Fashion - End of Fashion
1.Beck-Guero
2.Eels-Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
3.Death Cab For Cutie-Plans
4.The Strokes-First Impressions of Earth(technically a 2006 release but I couldn't resist cheating.Absolutely superb)
5.NIN-With Teeth
Honorable Mention Wilco-Kicking Televison:Live in Chicago
Worst album of the year: 311-Don't Tread on Me... One of my most eagerly awaited albums turned out to be pure garbage.A total disappointment. The kind of bad album that taints earlier work.
and yet we hear nothing from you about 'greatness'
1. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
2. Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal
3. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
4. Christine Fellows - Paper Anniversary
5. Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Allat Született

17. Cryptopsy - Once Was Not
18. Architecture in Helsinki - In Case We Die
19. Hella - Chirpin Hard
20. Broken Social Scene - s/t
21. Caribou - The Milk Of Human Kindness
22. Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain
23. Sunn O))) - Black One
24. Wolf Parade - Apologies To The Queen Mary
25. Low - The Great Destroyer
Feel free to question me on any of it, I'll answer what I can. It started from a list of 77, and I have the 52 or so that I left off. A lot of the more recognizable releases, Spoon, ...Trail Of Dead, System of A Down, Sleater-Kinney, Beck, and Jimmy Chamberlain etc were on the list of albums I considered but didn't make it. It probably sounds pretentious but I wanted to make sure I had the best representation of what was out there from this year.

how are these two?
i've heard 'dead cowboy' and it is ridiculous. how is hypermagic mountain compared to their last?
i've heard good things about wolf parade too, just haven't plunked down my hard earned cash for it yet.
Sometimes the arrangements can get a little too over the top, which occassionally grates on me, and Sufjan's vocal cadence on "Decatur" really put me off at first.
edit : I probably sounded like a gushing review on the back of a book cover or something, but this album was amazing. Also, it is not a solid number 1 by any shot. The top 5 is very volatile right now
I haven't actually heard Wonderful Rainbow, but if it is more of the same, I am down. It is basically around an hour of straight out riffing and pounding on the skins like there is no tomorrow. The album briefly lets up on "Infinity Farm," but keeps it pounding away for the most part. It is a blast to listen to, and I could see it being really fun to dance to. Check out "2 Morro Morro L" for a good idea of the sound.
And Wolf Parade, I honestly feel is over hyped. It really hits the mark with some fabulous pop songs, such as "Sons And Daughters Of Hungry Ghosts" and "I'll Believe in Anything."
Depending on your tolerance for anguished sounding vocals and interchanging guitar/keyboard hooks, your enjoyment of the album may vary. I know the big indie rag loves this, but honestly don't think I can include it any higher on the list
