Today it's Gnarls Barkley's 'St. Elsewhere'. Ask me tomorrow it might be Yo La Tengo's 'I Am Not Afraid Of You...' I haven't been able to definitively pick one yet.

Close one between Pearl Jam and Tool's 10,000 Days.

Best album I've heard this year is Mono - One More Step And You Die, although it was released a couple of years ago.

    Pearl Jam - Avocado
    Tool - 10,000 days
    Tom Waits - Orphans
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

    This is a tough one!

If I could have a 3-way tie, I would like to choose the following

Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites
    Thom Yorke - The Eraser
    Chad VanGaalen - Skelliconnection

With honorable mention going to Mastodon and Isis for Blood Mountain and In The Absence of Truth
  • Listening to it today, I'd have to say its RHCP's 'Stadium Arcadium'
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • it's impossible for me to pick just one.

    incubus - light grenades
    tom waits - orphans
    deftones - saturday night wrist

    yup.

    Mastodon - Blood Mountain
  • at the moment it is either:

primal scream - riot city blues
    or
    pearl jam - s/t
...Pearl Jam, a group filled with pride, passion, and intricate musicianship. Their music is full of subtle textures, rich color, soul-searching power, imagery, and eerie dissonance.

The Tragically Hip- World Container. I just can't stop listening to it. I'm addicted.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

for me its a tie between Pearl Jam and Stadium Arcadium
  • Probably Okonokos or Show Your Bones. By the way, the Okonokos vinyl kicks some serious ass.
Are you too good to tango with the poor poor boys?
  • Sticking with the "other music" theme.

I have a feeling that the new one from Incubus might be worth of mentioning but haven't come across it, yet..
The worst enemies of music? Money and Mathematics. Combined with music, they both do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do. Money makes music cheap, mathematics makes it stupid and predictable.

  • Definitely Pearl Jam. The only other contender for me was Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan's "Ballad of the Broken Sea".
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
  • A few that cross my mind:

Belle & Sebastian: The Life Pursuit
    Cat Power: The Greatest
    Pearl Jam: Pearl Jam
Neko Case: Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Camera Obscura: Let's Get Out of This Country
    Muse: Black Holes and Revelations
    The Raconteurs: Broken Boy Soldiers
Yo La Tengo: I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass

The clear winner to me is Neko Case (sorry Pearl Jam). I seriously cannot get enough of her voice. Absolutely spectacular.
