  • I can't commit to an all-time favorite but a few faves are: Deal, Wave that Flag, Eyes of the World and Fire on the Mountain.

great thread patrick! I also agree, Box of Rain is GRRRRRREAT! I think my favorite is Deal, but there are so many great songs, it's like Pearl Jam or the Beatles, you can't just pick one!

    Thanks for that link.

I specifically remember hearing that song for the first time(studio version) and being absolutely blown away...never ever thinking they could actually pull that one out of their bag full of tricks and bring it to the road for 1995's tour.

Sadly, I missed seeing it go down live on stage :(

I'm so glad this was recorded on video. Jerry's last song b4 his passing. Miss you Jerry.
  • Ripple, sure.
Basicaly all of American Beauty, China Cat, I Know You Rider, Jack Straw, St. Stephens -- all the "classics", okay.

    BUT MY FAVORITE is
    Candy Man

    :D
The studio version from American Beauty with the pedal steel is one of the best recorded tracks, of all time, ever, in the history of the worlds history.
    seriously.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

Just recently started listening to The Dead. I only have American Beauty and my faves off that CD are Box of Rain, Friend of the Devil and Ripple.

If you just started listening to them your better off looking at some Dead websites that stream their audio. Most of their great stuff is live and not on any of their albums, or at least studio albums.. enjoy.

not really, best stuff was live and those two suggestions are grate for new fans
Europe 72 captures the band during a historica tour and is the best release IMHO

    But here ya go:
skeletons from the closet (best of-this was my first Dead record)
    workingmans dead
    american beauty
    mars hotel
    shakedown street
  • Okay, thanks a bunch!
