The Verve - Lucky Man is the best rock song with violin

  • Never mind about the violin, the bird cage is the new instrument. Thanks to My Morning Jacket.

Bands that included violin and not the bird cage, or Arcade Fire are:-

    1. Yellow Card - great rock violin. The violinist in this band plays it like a guitar. Brilliant stuff.

    2. Dusty Rhodes - they were mainly country. Their 'First You Live' album houses plenty of punk attitude.

    3. Gordo Bordillo - plenty of Ukrainian Polka, but also having a strong punk attitude.

    4. Camper Van Beethoven - they did any music including Chinese, Mexican, Country, Punk, Progressive rock and Metal. Mainly they featured on World and alternative college music.
Jonathan Segel who played violin for this band is also found on the Artichoke Project, Victor Krummenacher's Patriarch's Blues and his own records concentrating on rock and electronica.

Doesn't APC have some electric violin on the first album.
  • There's a couple songs with it on the newest Raconteurs album, I remember Old Enough had it, I dunno if any other ones had it.

Let's see. You could play a lot of The Waterboys: The Whole of The Moon and Fisherman's Blues are obvious contenders.

    Beat me to it. :)

Gogol Bordello has a violinist. Here's "Start Wearing Purple":

At ACL Fest in September it seemed like every other band had a chick playing violin, including David Byrne and Foo Fighters.

And if you're in a really hippie mood, there's the band It's A Beautiful Day.

  • Get that Page/Plant, "No Quarter" DVD. That's amazing with the Orch behind them.

Then, there's that Metallica live with the San Fran Orch. Given her age, don't get the Parental Advisory edition.

Check out ELO. That album, I forget the name, begins with the song, "Fire on high".
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
