I have a 12 year old neice who plays violin, and I'm trying to expose her to a little more of the Rock side of the violin. Got a few DMB songs for her, but I wanted a variety. Other than "the Devil Went Down to Georgia", DMB, and Bob Dylan's Hurricane, I'm drawing a blank. Help me out.

Let's see. You could play a lot of The Waterboys: The Whole of The Moon and Fisherman's Blues are obvious contenders.

And don't forget The Who's Baba O' Riley and Zappa's The Gumbo Variations for some more advanced rock violin.
  • Foo Fighters 'Skin and Bones' album has violin all over it.

  • Check out The Arcade Fire. Great artsy, indie rock band that KILLS live. This might be a good start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Hh45-yBMXY

Another -- it has a little violin in it, though it's kind of drowned out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKC5pyOKFU

Or, for more violin -- or if you want something weird -- check them out playing in an elevator: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjxef8AfVQg

Clann Zù. I learned about them through this forum(this thread). Great band with lots of violins, very original music. Unfortunately the band doesn't exist anymore:

I always thought "Devils Arcade" by Bruce Springsteen had a really haunting violin intro.

Several songs from Wilco's Summerteeth album. Yet another reason to get a great album.
