today too.

I had read a lot about Slobberbone before I checked them out and it all sounded awesome. But the capper was Stephen King name checks them in "Black House" saying something to the tune of:"Every so often a great rock n' roll song comes along, and 'Give Me Back my Dog' by Slobberbone is a great rock n' roll song."
I never did hear that song, maybe I would change of my opinion of the band if I did. But I was kind of dissapointed with the stuff I did hear. Oh well.
Speaking of Drive By Truckers, I saw them open for the Black Crowes this summer. They were fucking awesome! I had not heard any of there music before, but I am fan now!Sleep on horseback

It's taken me a few weeks to get acquainted with the tracks I've downloaded...they have been slowly growing on me.Sathogwa wrote:Speaking of Drive By Truckers, I saw them open for the Black Crowes this summer. They were fucking awesome! I had not heard any of there music before, but I am fan now!
That is great to hear. If you get a chance, see one of their headlining shows.
You can't go wrong with Decoration Day or The Dirty South.

I'll probably be picking up one of their cd's next week, as I'm making a trip to the nearest Tower Records to do a little browising/shopping. Thanks for the tip!Sleep on horseback

For the love of Jesus H. Cooley...
I started a Slobberbone thread a few weeks ago and got all of 3-4 replies (I think PBM was one of them)...
I've downloaded the Crow Pot Pie )Slobberbone) album and absolutely love it. Spend the 9.99 and download it from I-tunes. Great disk - excellent storytelling songs akin to DBT... I'm going to download another one soon...
As for Two Cow Garage... I really like some of the songs. Others, I don't know what the hell the guy is doing with his voice, but it sounds like he is trying to force it down into an unnaturally low register... But some of the stuff off of their first CD - Please Turn the Gas Back On - is pretty good.
I think you can practically download all of their songs for free off of their website.
For my fellow ALt-Country (for lack of a better label) fans out there - I'm telling you - check out the Greg Graffin solo album.... I can't stop listening to it... a little more country than rock, with a great folk sound to it... amazing...
Anyone in to Centro-MAtic? Gotta admit I don't know much about them...0 -
Or, if you're only looking for a taste, Check out Slobberbone's MySpace page... good sampling, including two of my favorites off of Crow Pot PieL Stumblin and Little Sister...
Stumblin features one of my favorite lyrical openings to any song - it rocks out pretty hard:
So I picked a fight with Jesus Christ, now I'm thinkin' I was wrong
'Cause when you pick a fight with the Prince of Peace, you won't last for long
It's a one-lane highway straight to Hell ...
And I driven it so many times, you can bet I know it well.
He said "Trust in me, I'm the King of kings, and you, my friend, are in a rut."
But what I was looking for was the king of beers so I said, "Won't you be my bud."0 -

•Meltdown
•Lumberlung
Those are two tracks I got...pretty good stuff.
PBM
On a desperate quest for new music today, I downlaoded the whole Everything you thought was right... album - it's not as good as Crow Pot Pie, but still good stuff. It's funny you mentioned Meltdown and Lumberlung, because these are clearly the two standout tracks on the album...
I also downloaded the Drams album.. off to listen to that now...0 -

Lumberlung is a favorite for sure...I need to download some more stuff from them.
Let me know how that Drams CD is. They're with DBT in Memphis next month.

The Drams cd is alright - I don't like it as much as the grittier-sounding Slobberbone recordings... the two best songs on the album are the last two - Wonderous Life and Des Moines... September's High is also very good...
Keep in mind, this is based on all of two listens... I'm not blown away by the Drams record - but it's good.
Really enjoying that Slobberbone record the more I listen to it...0 -

I listened to the Graffin record awhile back, and I am a huge Bad Religion fan as well, but it just didn't do much for me, maybe it was just too weird of a shift from what I am used to from him.
Centro-Matic is pretty decent, they have kind of a lofi Guided By Voices by way of Southern rock sound, Fort Recovery is an amazing record though, I am slowly working my way through their rather extensive catalog.
As for Slobberbone, I love 'em. Everything you Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today would have to be my favorite of their records. The Man has a branch office in each of our brains, his corporate emblem is a white albatross, each local rep has a cover known as the Ego, and their mission in this world is Bad Shit.0 -

lzThe world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because this is just a ride." And we...kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok? But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

never heard a song by them, but ive seen this thread kicking around a while now and i finally had to say it:
worst name for a band ever.
thank you.0 -
Yes, but in the world of rock n' roll, "worst name " can be a good thing...
You'll remember it, right?
You should check out some of their (now defunct) music...0 -
Caught the Drams (most of slobberbone, plus some) Thursday night. There couldn't have been more than 40 people there in a venue that holds a couple hundred. That said, they put on a hell of a show. Great harmonies, amazing guitar work, they put a lot into their performance. Highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance.

yeah, I was gonna say, at least their lead guitarist and keyboardist didn't quit in the middle of a tour.
just saying.Teamwork. Rawk. Pwnage. Infinite Possibilities. YIELD. Hells yeah.0 -
After a few days of listening, Everything you Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today is clearly emerging as my favorite of the two albums. In addition to the songs I mentioned before (Meltdown and Lumberlong), songs like Give Me Back My Dog, That is All, and Josephine are all album highlights.
Excellent stuff if you like bands like DBT, etc...0 -

I saw this band play back in 2004 I think? It was one of their last shows and it was in LIncoln, NE-my hometown. They were really good. So are thely back together now?0

No - but re-incarnated (mostly) in a new band called The Drams...
But "newer" to me - I only got turned on to the old Slobberbone recordings through my interest in The Drive By Truckers...
Interesting tidbit, I heard (here, Alabama Ass Whuppin site?) that Slobberbone has sold almost as many albums since breaking up than they did when they were together due to DBT's constant pimping of the band...)0 -

Goes to show, DBT not only makes great music, but has excellent taste in it as well.
Those upcoming DBT/Drams shows should be wild."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
