I think they are broken up. Someone suggested them to me since I like DBT.

I've only heard a couple of songs, but it's pretty good stuff.

I heard really, really good things about them. They sounded like they would be right up my alley. I checked them out and wasn't that impressed. Kind of a bummer.

  • Heard good things on the DBT Yahoo list.
Heard they were in that vein, so will check them out.

Two Cow Garage is great too.
They've got some songs on their site for free download.

Sometimes it gets trite...but a good y'alternative sound there.

Interesting...I downloaded a few tracks and didn't really pay a lot of attention to them until recently.

They mentioned on the DBT yahoo list (looks like we are all subscribed to that one) that DBT will be doing a tour with the Drams, which is essentially Slobberbone, minus a person or two.

I haven't heard any studio stuff from Slobberbone, but have a few boots. They do a mean cover of Neil Youngs 'Big Time'. Sounds like a great fit with DBT.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Yeah, that'd be nice if they did a winter club tour...
but after reading Patterson's story about driving through WV and NY in the snow, and everyone getting sick and puking all over the place, I just don't see it.

I read on Nine Bullets that they toured with DBT before...it would be a good show.

I haven't heard enough from them yet, but I like what I hear.

They can do a winter club tour on the west coast. Hell, they could set up residence for a few months. I wouldn't complain. San Diego is still as far south as Alabama, just a little to the west.

Yeah, no sweet tea out here. When I saw them on the Dirty South tour, Isbell made a point of calling out the fact that you can't smoke in bars in California. As he put it, 'You can smoke in Church in the South'.

Yeah...the south is a strange land, but it makes for perfect fodder for rock albums.

Anyway..will work on the Slobberbone thing soon.

Alright, since I turned this into a DBT thread, I'll make it a slobberbone thread again. If any of you that have replied to this thread so far(bobasfeet, sathogwa, PBM, or likepilateihaveadog) want some Slobberbone boots, pm me your address and I'll send you a few freebies.

Nope, doesn't look like it. Although I'm listening to a great Phil & Friends show I pulled down from there last night...

Yeah, I investigated and couldn't come up with anything.

Some pretty good DBT shows up there though.

What are some other Slobberbone songs to look into?

To be honest, I don't know most of their song names off hand. I checked my boot list, and there isn't a setlist for most of them, with the exception of the one that is a 2-cd set of live covers. Lumberlung, Whiskey Glass Eye, Placemat Blues all come to mind as ones I've liked.

Slobberbone is great. I saw them twice and both times they closed with Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer." The Drams release their first album on 7/25. It is all of Slobberbone save the bass player plus two guys from another band. I recommend starting with these Slobberbone albums:

    Barrel Chested
Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today

Just a bit of DBT again - I agreed to buy a ticket for the 9:30 Club show off a guy on the Yahoo list! So I'll be heading to DC tomorrow morning. I'm really excited because I haven't seen the whole band play since last July's Baltimore show.

I had read a lot about Slobberbone before I checked them out and it all sounded awesome. But the capper was Stephen King name checks them in "Black House" saying something to the tune of:"Every so often a great rock n' roll song comes along, and 'Give Me Back my Dog' by Slobberbone is a great rock n' roll song."

I never did hear that song, maybe I would change of my opinion of the band if I did. But I was kind of dissapointed with the stuff I did hear. Oh well.

Speaking of Drive By Truckers, I saw them open for the Black Crowes this summer. They were fucking awesome! I had not heard any of there music before, but I am fan now!

It's taken me a few weeks to get acquainted with the tracks I've downloaded...they have been slowly growing on me.

That is great to hear. If you get a chance, see one of their headlining shows.

You can't go wrong with Decoration Day or The Dirty South.

I'll probably be picking up one of their cd's next week, as I'm making a trip to the nearest Tower Records to do a little browising/shopping. Thanks for the tip!

For the love of Jesus H. Cooley...

I started a Slobberbone thread a few weeks ago and got all of 3-4 replies (I think PBM was one of them)...

I've downloaded the Crow Pot Pie )Slobberbone) album and absolutely love it. Spend the 9.99 and download it from I-tunes. Great disk - excellent storytelling songs akin to DBT... I'm going to download another one soon...

As for Two Cow Garage... I really like some of the songs. Others, I don't know what the hell the guy is doing with his voice, but it sounds like he is trying to force it down into an unnaturally low register... But some of the stuff off of their first CD - Please Turn the Gas Back On - is pretty good.

I think you can practically download all of their songs for free off of their website.

For my fellow ALt-Country (for lack of a better label) fans out there - I'm telling you - check out the Greg Graffin solo album.... I can't stop listening to it... a little more country than rock, with a great folk sound to it... amazing...

Anyone in to Centro-MAtic? Gotta admit I don't know much about them...

Or, if you're only looking for a taste, Check out Slobberbone's MySpace page... good sampling, including two of my favorites off of Crow Pot PieL Stumblin and Little Sister...

Stumblin features one of my favorite lyrical openings to any song - it rocks out pretty hard:

So I picked a fight with Jesus Christ, now I'm thinkin' I was wrong
'Cause when you pick a fight with the Prince of Peace, you won't last for long
    It's a one-lane highway straight to Hell ...
And I driven it so many times, you can bet I know it well.

He said "Trust in me, I'm the King of kings, and you, my friend, are in a rut."
But what I was looking for was the king of beers so I said, "Won't you be my bud."
  • Interesting...I downloaded a few tracks and didn't really pay a lot of attention to them until recently.

    •Meltdown
    •Lumberlung

Those are two tracks I got...pretty good stuff.

On a desperate quest for new music today, I downlaoded the whole Everything you thought was right... album - it's not as good as Crow Pot Pie, but still good stuff. It's funny you mentioned Meltdown and Lumberlung, because these are clearly the two standout tracks on the album...

I also downloaded the Drams album.. off to listen to that now...
  • NakedClown wrote:

Lumberlung is a favorite for sure...I need to download some more stuff from them.

Let me know how that Drams CD is. They're with DBT in Memphis next month.

  • The Drams cd is alright - I don't like it as much as the grittier-sounding Slobberbone recordings... the two best songs on the album are the last two - Wonderous Life and Des Moines... September's High is also very good...

Keep in mind, this is based on all of two listens... I'm not blown away by the Drams record - but it's good.

Really enjoying that Slobberbone record the more I listen to it...

I listened to the Graffin record awhile back, and I am a huge Bad Religion fan as well, but it just didn't do much for me, maybe it was just too weird of a shift from what I am used to from him.

Centro-Matic is pretty decent, they have kind of a lofi Guided By Voices by way of Southern rock sound, Fort Recovery is an amazing record though, I am slowly working my way through their rather extensive catalog.

As for Slobberbone, I love 'em. Everything you Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today would have to be my favorite of their records.
