Yup, the Hipbase is indeed the place to be. Welcome, Sean! I've been told this is the longest running tribute thread on the PJ message pit. I'm proud to say I've played a big part in that fact.

I was actually listening to "Opiated" from the "Live 10" series last night...

is that the most killer version of a Hip song ever reduced to accoustic?.... or what?

Agreed! That song is so damn rare and I've only ever heard 4 or 5 live versions of it, most of them from crappy sounding audience bootlegs. The one from Live 10 is the best version I've ever heard. Now we just need to get our hands on a killer live version of Pigeon Camera and my life will be complete.

I was at (and filmed) the 7/28/02 Hip show in Somerville, Ma where Gord forgot the words mid-song, someone in the audience gave him the wrong verse and screwed him up even more and he just had to stop singing it..

They didn't play that song live again for years..
must have scared him pretty bad, huh?

"the drop off" is the best Hip song since "Dire Wolf" in my opinion...

right up there with "On the Verge" and "wherewithal"...

Ok gang, post your own version of "Yer Favorites" (36 tracks). Here's what I would've chosen:

    Disc 1:

    1. Gift Shop
    2. Springtime in Vienna
    3. Opiated
    4. Cordelia
    5. Daredevil

    14. Fully Completely
    15. Ahead by a Century
    16. Put it Off
    17. Emperor Penguin
    18. The Dire Wolf

    Disc 2:

    1. Grace, Too
    2. Everytime You Go
    3. Lake Fever
    4. Gus: The Polar Bear from Central Park
    5. Greasy Jungle
    6. Nautical Disaster

    15. Don't Wake Daddy
    16. Escape is at Hand for the Travellin' Man

Damn, that was difficult. There are so many great songs I left off (38 Years Old, Leave, Impossibilium, Kids Don't Get It, Are We Family, Last of the Unplucked Gems...I could go on and on.) I also didn't include New Orleans is Sinking or Blow at High Dough, which most Hip fans would think is insane. But hey, that's me.

Anybody looking for some long lost Hip bootlegs? I just stumbled upon this website, which I knew existed but had totally forgotten about. Lots of great stuff to download here:

    http://www.thehundredthmeridian.com/ftp.html

The username and password are both "download". A couple of these shows I already have on CD, but there are some surprises here that I'd never heard before. I highly recommend the following shows if you don't already have them. These are all A+ soundboard quality recordings:

    1998-07-29-Sausalito_CA (acoustic performance/interview)
1991-05-24-Hengelo_Netherlands (classic show. Gord sounds very drunk.)
1994-12-07-Gino_Sweden (great rare version of Titanic Terrarium)
1995-07-01-Bear_Valley_CA (amazing show with some classic Gord rants)
1996-05-29-Washington_DC (best version of Put it Off I've ever heard)
    1996-07-20-Boulder_CO (two words: Pigeon Camera!)

    Enjoy!

There were two specific bootleg CDs from the early 90s called "Roxy & Elsewhere", and "Glastonbury & Elsewhere" that each had plenty of great stuff. You can download each one from the website I mentioned. The "Killerwhaletank" version of New Orleans is Sinking and the "Double Suicide" version of Highway Girl are both on Roxy & Elsewhere.
