Agreed! I just blew a bunch of money booking my upcoming vacation, so unfortunately I won't be able to go to both days, so I'm picking day 2 just for the Hip, the Constantines, and the New Pornos. I'd like to see STP as well, but ya gotta make sacrifices sometimes."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Got my Virgin Fest tix this morning for the June 22nd show. What a lineup! Never thought I'd get to see the Hip, the Constantines, and the New Pornographers at the same show. This thing is gonna rock! Anybody else get tickets yet?"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. What the hell is Fergie doing on that bill? And Donna Summer?? Weird. Other than that, this looks like a killer lineup."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. I have the same version on a bootleg CD called "Roxy & Elsewhere". Bought it years ago for about $20, back in the days before the Internet when used record stores sold live bootlegs and charged ridiculous prices for them. Man, do I ever feel old."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. It sucks that we get more shows, but you get little club shows while we get stadium shows... It all evens out in the end, I think.0 -

The Americans have it much better than we do. As fun as the big stadium/arena/festival shows are, I definitely prefer to see the boys in smaller venues. Some of the best Hip shows I've ever seen were in small clubs down in the U.S. Also, the crowds are generally more laid back and well behaved, which always makes for a better show."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. Nice! Thanks for the info direwolf..always wondered about that. It'll probably take me my whole life (and maybe tons of cash if anything) to collect all/some of their live rare stuff...so many goodies, I've only heard so little and collected a few. http://www.hipmuseum.com/unreleased.html
LOL!...The good thing though is that you've been listening to the band for a long time right? and I'm sure you've heard most of the rare stuff...especially tons of those sweet rants by Gord, probably you heard of the early rare rants too! So don't feel bad about feeling old!
I've heard 'Double Suicide' Highway Girl...is another excellent track on that bootleg.

Hoping for a suprise small club show in the summer! Yeah...right..wishful thinking! Damn Americans.

Haha! Well, it was because of the festival; apparently it has a history of being pretty rough? But I figure I'm a farm girl and I survived various mosh pits, including Rage Against the Machine, so I should be okay...0 -

They've been working on a new album over the past couple of months, so I wouldn't be surprised if they road-tested some new material this summer."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. I haven't seen it in a while, thanks for the post! Gord's perfect in that video and to add Al Purdy's poetry in there...whoa it's simply awesome I think!
AT THE QUINTE HOTEL by Al Purdy
I am drinking
I am drinking beer with yellow flowers
in underground sunlight
and you can see that I am a sensitive man
And I notice that the bartender is a sensitive man too
so I tell him about his beer
I tell him the beer he draws
is half fart and half yellow horse piss
and all wonderful yellow flowers
But the bartender is not quite
so sensitive as I supposed he was
the way he looks at me now
and does not appreciate my exquisite analogy
Over in one corner two guys
are quietly making love
in the brief prelude to infinity
Opposite them a peculiar fight
enables the drinkers to lay aside
their comic books and watch with interest
as I watch with interest
A wiry little man slugs another guy
then tracks him bleeding into the toilet
and slugs him to the floor again
with ugly red flowers on the tile
three minutes later he roosters over
to the table where his drunk friend sits
with another friend and slugs both
of em ass-over-electric-kettle
so I have to walk around
on my way for a piss
Now I am a sensitive man
so I say to him mildly as hell
“You shouldn’ta knocked over that good beer
with them beautiful flowers in it”
So he says to me “Come on.”
So I Come On
like a rabbit with weak kidneys I guess
like a yellow streak charging
on flower power I suppose
and knock the shit outa him & sit on him
(he is a little guy)
and say reprovingly
“Violence will get you nowhere this time chum
Now you take me
I am a sensitive man
and would you believe I write poems?”
But I could see the doubt in his upside down face
in fact in all the faces
“What kind of poems?”
“Flower poems”
“So tell us a poem”
I got off the little guy reluctantly
for he was comfortable
and told them this poem
They crowded around me with tears
in their eyes and wrung my hands feelingly
for my pockets for
it was a heart-warming moment for Literature
and moved by the demonstrable effect
of great Art and the brotherhood of people I remarked
“— the poem oughta be worth some beer”
It was a mistake of terminology
for silence came
and it was brought home to me in the tavern
that poems will not really buy beers or flowers
or a goddam thing
and I was sad
for I am a sensitive man."All the strength that you might think would disappear, resolving..."0
