If you're going to take pictures

I'm taking some pictures.
But, that being said, if you're going to take pictures...turn off your flash. It's completely useless and wasted at a rock concert. The stage lighting will provide sufficient lighting for any pic taking youre gonna want. It's useless up close because the stage lights are brighter than your flash and it's useless way back because your flash isn't going to light up anything around you but the back of other fan's heads and hands. The only thing the flash is going to do is annoy the people around you, and the band. So turn it off. Also, be mindful of the people around you. Nobody wants to chill out, or get out of the way because you want a picture. If you have a good opportunity to snag a photo, take it. But don't expect other people to go out of their way to appease you, nor should they. One more thing, don't over do it. Do not spend the whole damn night watching the concert through a viewfinder. Get around five or so good pictures and leave it at that. You don't need to take a picture every five minutes. Otherwise you're going to have pictures that don't go with memories.
By the way, any of you guy with recording devices....consider recording some of the audience instead of the band. It'll make your spine tingle when you're listening to your tape and hear everyone singing along to the same thing...and you taped it. Don't spend all night taping either. It'll distract you and trust me, you'll have more fun singing along to the songs while you're there, than you will singing along to the tape later.

I completely agree with you. Cheers! I'll be snapping away. No flash of course.Vedderlution_Baby! wrote:I'm taking some pictures.

Well flash is not useless if your close enough, but that being said if you do the settings on your camera you can get pretty good shots. I got great shots at flight to mars and you would have no idea I didn't use a flash. The key is having a good camera.

Such good advice ... really, with boots and youtube and message boards and torrents, just get lost in the show! That's the thing you won't get back. its so fucking true people are too daft to realize it though, turn your flash off and open up your shutter, if you juts change your exposure to -2 or -3 youll get way better pics then with a flash.{if (work != 0) {

Some of my friends are tapers and I can tell you they would laugh at these sugggestions. "Don't spend all night taping either." Huh? Tapers are proud of their work when it comes out well & try their best to make it so. Audience tapes record the audience as well as the band anyway...it's an audience tape and not a soundboard after all.
When tapers don't want to worry about whether or not they're going to mess up their tape by making too much noise at a show, they take a show off from taping & just enjoy the show in the same way as everyone else.You see me empty, Sir, do not pause and inquire, simply assume and refill.

I wasn't talking about diehard tapers. They know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and how to do it right. I was talking about the amature who's only going to hit one or two shows at the most.0 -

I wouldn't risk taking a SLR with a detachable lens to a show. I usually crotch my cameras in. True. I try and wear the baggiest shorts to the shows. I guess as long as it's not a SLR with a detachable lens I don't have to sneak it in, right? It'll be a nice change from the shows I usually go to.pdalowsky wrote:guess this depends on the crotch size!!!
