Got into the fun and expensive world of posters this summer and these are the first three I've got framed. Went with them first as my storage portfolio is only 24x18. Didn't go with mats due to the price (the main thing I wanted was the UV protecting glass) but am very happy with how they turned out! Didn't realize they all had a water theme at the time but I now call them my "Oceans" trilogy :)

    Ok-
Hate to ask but I don't even know where to start with this thread.

I want to start chipping away at the framing with the huge caveat of - - what is the best value custom frame job?

Michaels seems to always be 40% off

Anyone ever used Frame It Easy or Simply Framing?

Sorry for the vague ask and apologies if it's easier to find the answer through search...

If you do it yourself, most people on here use American Frame. If you have someone else frame it, most people use Hobby Lobby or Micheal's. Depending on where you live a lot of people have success with the mom and pop shops. Ive had two posters framed. Both through Micheal's, and both cost me over 400 bucks, but I had my tickets, stickers, and pins included with the poster. Depends on how in depth you want to go. Hope that helps

I've used both Michaels and American frame.com. Michaels does always have some kind of special running. Usually they have two different frame collections and one collection will be on sale one week and the other collection will be on sale the next week. Sometimes they have 60% +20% off sometimes they have 70% +20% off. With Michael's I've always used sale on the frame that I wanted. But my experiences it's usually around $200 anyway. That's for a frame a double mat and UV glass. With American frame.com I also get the double mat and UV glass and frame. Usually it's about $120-$150. I've never framed a poster with the ticket stubs and stickers. Obviously that would be more and I couldn't do it myself. Then I would probably use Michael's or even might try hobby lobby.

Shop local! Michaels retail prices are inflated and fake. Then they mark it down to make it seem as if it's a good deal. But it's still 20% higher than the actual cost. I've put some work in the past year at a local frame shop. The big box places subtly screw people. Just be cautious of it.

I would never take one of my posters to a store that sells fake flowers or fabric.
It's not that difficult to find a good local frame shop... and they are ALMOST always a better value than the overpriced big box "art supply" shops!!

Even the local places I visited are like $220 for basic frame, UV glass and one mat. That is after their discount. I don't have a lot of patience to look around and but try to keep the cost under $200.

i got lucky and found arttoframe.com but they had a 50% off your total order. i got 7 frames for under $200, some with mat, some without, varying sizes but most were 18x24 or bigger. frames can be just ridiculously expensive. hence why i've waited 13years to frame some prints

There's a local shop here that does AWESOME work but a little spendy. I take my super special/rare stuff there. The rest I've taken to hobby lobby. I've had three done with great results:

    This was $96. UV glass

    $138 double mat UV glass

I have a Michaels and a Hobby Lobby close by. Michaels wanted to charge me like $350 for what Hobby Lobby did for around $110. I have since done another at HL and I will probably do the rest I have in waiting as well at HL. I had a local framer do a Brandon Boyd print I had and it cost me over $200. He did a great job, but I'd recommend HL.

Yep! That's why I stopped collecting and sold almost all my posters.

Costco, at least in Canada, is the cheapest option. It beats Michael's even with their 40% & 50% sales they do. Might be worth checking that out if they do it where you are. They do great work too.
  • I might be alone in this but I'm not a fan of framing concert tickets/ stickers etc along with posters. Not a fan at all.
