So can anyone explain the lack of Seattle shows?

The Gorge isnt seattle. And those two secret shows dont count either. Benefits dont count either.

These guys defined seattle. They made it cool. They made little kids like me during the hey day of grunge dream of running away and moving to seattle.

So why do they refuse to play Seattle proper?

Stone plays here with Brad and other side projects. Mike plays here with Flight to Mars and pretty much only played around here with The Rockfords. Matt plays around here with his side projects.

Ed skips Seattle on his solo tour, and will only play unannounced shows in front of 100 people. I'm putting the blame on lack of Seattle shows squarely on Ed unless I hear a different/better explanation.

Stone has a Roethlisberger tattoo on his left ass cheek and thus was exiled from Seattle after the Steelers beat the Seahawks in the Super Bowl

and sounds like the left coast is getting passed over again..... I wish I knew the answer to this question..... Key Arena is lame, but a lame excuse as well. Plenty other places to play.

I recently read an article about how the Seattle Music scene has been dead for years and all the old bars/clubs/music venue's from the "grunge" hey-days are now shopping malls and high rise apartments.
I have never been to Washington State or Seattle keep in mind - I think it was the Seattle Times on-line or one of the on line newspapers.
Anywho - Maybe the guys just dont dig playing there any more. Just a guess, thats all. I honestly dont know shit. I just love the band.

Don't understand what you mean by the West Coast getting passed over again.

I'm pretty sure after the new album comes out and they launch a massive tour, Seattle will get it's fair share. I visited Seattle last year for the first time and absolutely loved it there, so I would be thrilled to go back to see a great city and my favorite band.

I've been thinking this as well, especially with the Green River reunion coming up...it seems that Eddie is the only one preventing them from playing here.

It might be, but it's still almost 200 miles away. Besides that, it's not being played this year

It's not just Seattle, it's the whole NW USA. I live more than 300 miles from Seattle more than 400 from the Gorge and about 100 from Portland, OR. Since the big 2000 Tour we've had them only once in Portland(2006 CCFA benifit) and 3 times at the Gorge. Pretty sure Eddie stuck his foot in his mouth as far as playing The Rose Garden in Portland, but there are plenty of other venues to choose from. Really just mad that I can't afford to travel 4000 miles to see them this year.

That would be like considering the following NYC, NY shows:
    Albany, NY
    Wilmington, DE
    Lanaster, PA
    Springfield, MA
    Hartford, CT

you get the idea. The Gorge is not Seattle. The Gorge is not geographically near Seattle. The Gorge is not culturally near Seattle. The Gorge is a beautiful and amazing place to see a show on the other side of the state on the other side of the mountains, hours away.

That is the truth and anyone who doesn't understand that, just doesn't get it. The Gorge shows are considered the Seattle market. The Puget Sound makes up upwards of 90% of all the people who attend Gorge shows. If Pearl Jam didn't enjoy the Seattle crowds, then they wouldn't have played our most prized venue, The Gorge, 3 times in a years time.

So, lets get keep that straight. All that has happened in the last couple of tours (Canada 2005 and album tour 2006) was that they chose to play the much better and way more celebrated venue in our area, The Gorge.

You all are wrong. For more than 15 years, we, the citizens of the Puget Sound have been the PRIMARY patrons of The Gorge. It is our baby. Sure it is 200 miles away, but we knew that 15 years ago and it has never stopped us from trekking over there. Comparing ANYTHING to the way we do things in the west, to how things are done in the east is like comparing apples and brick houses. Folks in NY bitch moan and complain when they have to travel 17 miles to go to NJ. We couldn't even begin to leave out state in 17 miles. So, everything is relative.

As far as concert promotions go, The Gorge is in the Puget Sound's market.

We will continue to disagree that the Gorge is a Seattle show, then. It is a NW venue, but when PJ plays the Gorge, that doesn't mean they've played Seattle. Of course, based on our market size we are the primary draw for the venue. I love the place and will continue to support it. I've got tickets to 3 different shows there this summer and go out there multiple times every year (and have been going there for over a decade). But the venue is not in Seattle, and a Gorge show is not a Seattle show. I will definitely continue to advocate for a Seattle show, and take what I can get.

At the Gorge in 06...I didn't meet a single person from Seattle...maybe one from Wash State. All were from California, Boston, Florida, NY, Vancouver, Kansas City, Oregon..etc etc. So I'd have to disagree with the 90%. Maybe a little lower.

90% from the Puget Sound which stretches from Lacey, Wa to Bellingham, WA, and every place in between. There is a lot more to the Puget Sound than just Seattle. And then yes, outside of the Puget Sound, the rest of the Pacific Northwest travels there as well. But is primarily the Puget Sound. And then outside of the Pacific Northwest, the rest of the country and the world travel mass distances to attend shows at the Gorge. But make no mistake, the Puget Sound market is the largest ever in attendance there.

I just take issue with folks confusing the issue and claiming they haven't played Seattle to equate that they haven't played our region. They have played our region. The Gorge is our in our region. It is not as though they (or anyone) plays The Gorge for the residents of Quincy and George. They play there for the residents in the Puget Sound.

I think you and I are on the same page, which isn't surprising...I agree they haven't played the city of Seattle, but also recognize that they haven't dissed us at all because they have played our region many times.

Is Vancouver considered a Seattle show then? Its closer fo me than the Gorge. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE THE GORGE. But it is far from a Seattle show. I dislike Key Arena, and would much rather see them at the Gorge than the Key. Why not a couple nights at the Paramount or Moore, the Everett Event Center, or something along those lines? I would also think that the PJ Gorge shows are well attended from all over the US, not 90% from the PNW. Portland is in the same boat as Seattle also.
