Mine's gonna be "Knocking on Heaven's Door". (Not including childhood playing.) I've got all the chords down, when I get quicker at the fretting I'll learn to pick.

C, G, D and A minor. Pretty simple.

Mine was like a combination of Stairway to Heaven, [weird for a very first song, I know] Free Fallin, and Not for You.

It was Immortality I believe... Then In hiding and Who you are.
  • Something by Nirvana. I actually learned taps but that doesn't really count. It was Come As You Are, the opening to Jeremy, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and the riff from 7 Nation Army. I was in a hotel with(at the time my friends, now mine) mustang and was bored. Little did I know that the guitar would change my life...

When I first got my bass, I learned Gigantic by the Pixies. I felt like a genius at 12 or so figuring it out by myself... XD

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I remember my first few lessons were:
Monkeywrench - Foo Fighters (No idea why this was the first song considering how fast it is)
    Californication - RHCP
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

The first song I was taught that I could get perfectly right all the way through was Everlong by Foos.

I'll Ride The Wave Where It Takes Me
  • Jingle Bells - reading music (gave up on that a LONG time ago!!!) from a mel bay book

About a Girl - i remember strumming the Em G intro and my classmate saying it sounded nothing like the song.....i've come a long way!

tish and pjoasisrule, the people that taught us to play must've went to the same guitar teaching school because "Knockin on Heaven's Door" and "Come As You Are" were the first 2 songs I learned. soon followed by "Teen Spirit", the 12 bar blues, and "Is There Anybody Out There".
  • Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple

Isn't that the first song everyone learns?
    one foot in the door
the other foot in the gutter
    sweet smell that they adore
    I think I'd rather smother

you and me both. I've been playing about 13 years now too. it's wierd that the "new" bands that I started out learning are now considered "classic rock". I should be a LOT better than I am now.
