Anyone else still holding out hope that Boom won't show up for this tour or have most people come to accept him as the sixth man?

I just can't get into those organ jams that are only stealin' time away from Mike. Boom has single handedly killed Crazy Mary.

unhappyly I cannot go to this tour but if I could I would like to see Boom playing with PJ.

I would be thrilled if he sat this one out. Hearing his piano in Rocking in the Free World makes me cringe.

As a side note, I love your user name.

WTF!!!!!!! the way Boom and mike feed off each other during Crazy Mary is unbelievable, if he doesn't tour with them they shouldn;t play that song at all, that song was THE highlight of the Van 03 show i went to;)

  • I like boom, but wasn't it funny in the DVD when he played that centuries old organ and EV didn't even smile. He had that look like, "You have displeased the master." Me and my friends were laughing at that. Such an awkward moment.

Gonna have to watch that part again, lol all i noticed was how juiced Boom was to be able to kick out a few licks on that instrument

    God.

Get out of the '90s man. There is nothing wrong with some keyboards...I think it enhances the songs a great deal.

Jesus...I can only imagine the uproar if PJ came out with a horn section*.

*something I'm hoping for on the next album.
  • I think the best version I heard of Crazy Mary was at Uniondale '03 cos of Boom. But check out that DVD and let me know if that part with Boom and Ed wasn't a little awkward.

appalled someone would actually make this comment. i think if mike heard this comment he would jump in boom's defense and hit you over the head with a guitar till you could hear what everyone else hears. boom is awesome!

Ha ha ha. Oh how I've missed the Boom bashing threads.

Boom is a totally wrong fit for Pearl Jam. This isn't Benmont Tench we're talking about here. He's by far the weakest link in concert and can totally drag the songs he plays on down. WHile there are a few that benefit from his presence, the scales are far tipped in the negative column.

Erroneous! Erroneous on all counts! Boom rocks socks, and he'll crush you with his B3 if he ever finds you.

I didn't get that at all. I remember EV looking absorbed in that moment.

As far as Boom's inclusion during this tour, I hope it is just Boom and Eddie with his yuke. ;)

Fucking crazy, I highly doubt someone who writes songs on piano and with a uke, would not want one in the bands mix. I also doubt the band would put a show out where Ed is disrespecting someone he loves. You cant assume that.

As far as leaving him home, he isnt some rug they stand onstage with. He needs to be used more, the band has a great substance in their music, and they work so hard on their groove, even though it doesnt always come off that way, it still exists, and piano or organ accents the whole song.
I would look at ditching him as going backwards, unless they replaced him with someone better.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

    no more shows

  • Haha... A lot of the replies cracked me up. I'm not even anti-organ (I was a Doors fan before a Pearl Jam fan) but Boom just has never fit for me. It's really the solos that bother me the most. They're a downer at the shows and I skip them on the boots.

For the love of everything that is good in this world... Eddie, no horns!

hopethatuchoke... Thanks. It's a reference from the second greatest band of all time, American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost.

Why? Cause it's not "grunge" enough?

I would love that. It would thin out the fucking frat guys who invade PJ shows nowadays.
  • Sorry... Pearl Jam is the only band I listen to from the "grunge" era. Not worried about that.

    I'm more into old-school HC.

I think Ed not smiled because he was very moved. That one was one of the great moments of the DVD. Boom was great..Sensitivity...

So OAR are a frat band according to this board... they have horns. Now if PJ adds horns the frat boys will leave? Geez, if I was a typical frat boy I'd be pretty confused. Also I didn't know this was a problem at PJ shows...

I think I read it differently. I think boom's solo on that thing sucked and EV was like "we came all the way over here and this is all you got?". I thought it was funny. but to each their own!

    Generally though, I like Boom.

I think Ed wasn't smiling because he was thinking how daft it was of him to wear that sweater when he knew he'd be filmed that day.
