no code or yield

yes, the eternal debate again.

a friend finally asked me to burn her some pj.
she wants an album instead of a mix and i am torn.
do i go with my personal favorite, no code?
or do i go with the more accessible yield, which may be their best album if i take my personal preference out of the equation?

in her other musical tastes, she is not much of a rocker.
which will give the best opportunity to create a new fan?

thanks for any thoughts.

  • I'm on the 'No Code' side as well, but as for PJ beginners, if it's between those two albums, then I would probably go with 'Yield'.

Yield...i think that's their most diverse album.
to me it has elements of Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, & No Code era.
No Code is fine as well, since she's not a big rocker.

but you should actually make her buy all of them. :D

Id say Yield has to be their best all round album...especially for a newbie, no code is a bit darker. From the 1st track to the end, the album is flawless, no need to skip any tracks.

I mean, come on, given to fly, in hiding, do thr evolution, all those yesterdays, no way...every single track - a classic!

I'd recommend no code, without hesitating.
I'm not a big fan of yield. it'as a good album but if I had to give an album to somebody who doesn't know PJ, I'd go with no code, or Vs if the person is more "rock".

You just can't give no code to someone who wants an insight into pj. That is like serving the spiciest and most challenging course first. Hard to digest.. Potential pearl jam fans needs to warm up to these albums with something they might recognize, and these songs are more than likely represented on either of the first three albums.

If you want a good advice, drop yield and no code for now and do a copy of rvm disc 2. Then a little later, introduce her to your favourite pj.

This comes from experience and is only meant as a tip!
    Good luck:-)

Choosing between those two only, I'd say No Code. But have you even considered Riot Act or Binuaral? Both of those albums are sweet.

    yield.

no code is not for rookies imho. it's the album that caused many people to dismiss them and stop listening to them. look at all the threads people post where someone says "they were good on ten and vs but they're irrelevant now" or something to that effect. it's because of no code, and the concious decision the band made when putting it out to AVOID casual new fans...

    Why not give her both?
    Problem solved.

but if she doesnt know about PJ then a mix album will just be like an album to her anyway? just do a mix... and tell her to stop being so damn fussy in future!!! she's getting a free cd of music.. which is illegal btw... i'm going to tell Kat on you

    that's a major possibility.
i don't want to overwhelm her, tho.
i did check to see if they would fit on one cd, but no.
  • I say give her "Vs" first yeah....YEAH! That's what hooked me long ago!

Chosing between the two is easy, it's No Code all the way.

When I play No Code for non-fans(casual) they always ask why they've never heard all these great songs before.

I was thinking the same thing.
As much as I love No Code, I heard so many people say the same but also it's a hard album to get into, esp for a beginner.
I'd try with Yield, then No Code :)
