Reznor quote from 1994...
I have a feeling Trent Reznor is not happy about the Hurt cover by eddie vedder. He is not a big Pearl Jam fan. At least he wasn't back in 1994:
snippet from an interview:
L: Selling lots of records isn't such a bad thing...
T: The problem is, if I would have made a record and set down and thought O.K. A lot of people liked `Head Like A Hole' yeah, maybe I'll write a song that sounds just like it. Okay, grunge is in maybe I'll grow a goatee. Yeah, that might be cool. But I need a big techno edge, `cause that's really popular right now so I'll have Moby remix it. and then I sold a shitload of records, I'd feel on thin ice. I'd never do that in the first place, but if I did, I'd feel uneasy because I basically sold out.
L: But don't you have a responsibility to yourself as a musician, let alone to your fans?
T: Absolutely I do. I'm saying if I did that I'd feel shitty about selling a lot of records. But I've made the records I've wanted to make. And if a lot of people want to buy them, then who am I to say they're not cool enough to buy my records. You're a nerd. You're from Pennsylvania, you can't buy this. I grew up there! I was one of those guys who wasn't cool enough. It's music. If you don't like it, the Pearl Jam record is right there on the shelf. Buy it! It's for people like you.
L: What do you listen to?
T: Pearl Jam.
L: Alright.
T: I fucking hate Pearl Jam.
L: O.K.

that way we can judge them for something they said 15 years ago

Interesting snippet of interview...not really unexpected...Trent was probably mad because he thought he had the angry at the parents tortured soul mad at the world image all to himself, but he realized he did not...
I guess they both grew up as they left their 20's and 30's behind...fancy that....
ok so it isn't just me that can't find any reference to ed covering hurt....man it's gonna be a long few months until the new album and tour if this is the quality of threads we'll have to deal with

totally agree. But I remember reading a recent article somewhere where he bad mouthed the band again! He said something to the effect that he always respected nirvana but thought pearl jam was joke/not original....trying to find that article.
Still haven't heard Ed's version of hurt...
are they not now?

EdVed's solo show in Chicago. Good luck finding it. It keeps getting posted, then pulled...posted, then pulled.
ones that make me feel good when things behind the smile ain't ok...." -Hoon
this is the kind of garbage that flies around here these days. apparently the financial crisis is leaving people with a lot of free time.
"In your case, I'll check my brain at the door and we'll start even, okay?"

dig up something that is 14 years old!!!
i think both bands would have grown up a lot musically and mentally.
Ed and Trent are both musical talents and i am sure have a great respect for each other. By covering Hurt, and saying what he says before he sings the song, i think he shows that!
I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!
full aware of the cover....i've heard it..it's great....now someone point me to where reznor is pissed about it
L: What do you listen to?
T: Pearl Jam.
that part made me lol.

ed did a great job.
someone just decided to dig up a 14 year old interview where trent says he hates PJ!!
I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!
You read my mind.
I expected to find a recent article that confirms such an allegation though i found myself reading a 14 year old quote
Well, I've got a photo of Stone and Jeff watching Trent Reznor at Bridge 2006 - they were at the side of the stage....which is where Jeff and Dave Matthews stood to watch DCFC... so I would imagine there's a mutual respect...
eV: 8/4/08, 8/5/08, 6/21/11
SG: 10/4/08<-- MET STONE!!!
Jealousy...that's all it is! NIN, in all seriousness, well can you really take them seriously...
I'm sure Trent is honored Eddie covered Hurt.. or he doesn't give a rats ass.
I also remember Trent mocking Ed around that time (think it was in Rolling Stone)... something about his lyrics not being that personal, saying he was not the epitome of honesty he portrays himself as....
I'm a fan of pretty much everything done by both PJ and NIN, I couldn't care less what they think of each other. Even if they do/did hate each other, who are we to guess why?
I would be interested to hear Trent's reaction tho, this thread was disappointing.
hmmm...probably stretching it a little..."all time greats"??
