Nah ... they were terrible. Just terrible. Even their version of Betterman is all f'ed up. There's a reason Ed made it big as the lead singer of Pearl Jam, not Bad Radio.
A friend who was trying to help me through a rough patch gave me the book back in ’96. I know for certain that I absolutely HATED, I mean HATED it.
My recollection:
The concepts were more soft, and cuddly than insightful.
The device is thin. Gorilla communicating gentle wisdom about the state of man. (ugggh)
The prose was uninteresting (I mean, honestly, if you’re gonna stoop to using a gorilla to simply vomit your own ill thought-out ideas at least exercise some skillful prose or other inventive device)
I know this sounds harsh, and I have felt like a genuine ass being that soulless ape who can't commune with the hairy kind—so I’d like to give it another go IF I can get someone who wants to talk about it to do the same.
Takers?
Hahaha no, I'd like to think of myself as a giver;)
Did you give any thought as to why the author used a gorilla (that may help)?
I would to hear eV play Believe You Me, maybe on eVl2
See this needle...a see my hand...
Drop drop dropping it down...oh so gently...
Well here it comes...I touch the plane...
Turn me up...won't turn you away...
so who else was hoping for, but knowing they weren't going to get, some weird fact about the band you didn't already know.
I know--I thought of that after my original post...but it was too late. I should have said "20 Non-bizarre-things-you-probably-already-knew-with-the- exception-of-#9-About-Pearl-Jam"
i remember the newsletter (i might still have it) when they mentioned ishmael as related to yield. . .read the book, i liked it. . .i did know most of these facts but the killer tomatoes thing is funny, didn't know that
i have wished for so long, how i wish for you today
JEFFREY ROSS ROGERS 1975-2002
Last Kiss (fact #20) was a cover of a Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders' song covered first by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers. To me it seems like the article is saying its a J. Frank song, although he and his band did make the song more popular than Cochran and his band.
Just so you know, the original poster of this thread is a good friend of mine. So, I wasn't trying to sound like a "know-it-all" or trying to diss her or anything. I will give you Puberty love, I did not know that either but other than that one, yes I KNEW all about the others. And just because someone says "I knew that" doesn't mean they're childish. Although, I really don't think there is anything wrong with being childish :-)
I was just happy to read one I hadn't heard myself, you must admit that your post didn't exactly come across as reverent; damn internet, tuff to convey/interpret correctly at times. Btw, I wasn't calling you childish, rather leaning toward smug, then again I misinterpreted your message - my bad, certainly nothing wrong with childish.
Personally, with respect to the article, I wanted to voice my distaste of facts getting lumped together such as The Who is the band's major influence when in fact it's really just Ed's and Jeff's and they, in addition to the other band members have countless influences, some overlapping as well like The Ramones, Clash, Black Flag to name a few. Anyway, I didn't post that comment for fear of sounding smug, now I do - thanks.
Btw, nothing against The Who...I love The Who, just dislike careless reporting.

Dont wanna get to involved with all the controversy... I stress Im only posting this because obviously people care about knowing this information, but some further corrections.
Point. 4) Betterman was first recorded by Pearl Jam during the Vs session.
BRENDAN O'BRIEN: There's a great song we recorded for Vs., "Better Man," which ended up on Vitalogy. One of the first rehearsals we did they played it and I said "man, that song's a hit." Eddie just went "uhhh." I immediately knew I'd just the said the wrong thing. We cut it once for Vs., he wanted to give it away to this Greenpeace benefit record, the idea was that the band was going to play and some other singer was going to sing it. I remember saying to the engineer, Nick, "this is one of their best songs and they're going to give it away! Can't happen!" And we went to record it and I'm not going to say we didn't try very hard, but it didn't end up sounding very good. I may have even sabotaged that version but I won't admit to that. It took us to the next record, recording it two more times, before he became comfortable with it because it was such a blatantly great pop song.
point 6) another drummer - Matt Chamberlin
point 12) ed also has a pedal marked ! between the soap and dirty pedals
Those who dance are called insane by those who dont hear the music

Nice...thanks, that is good info.
Btw, it's not a controversy, rather a friendly banter at this point (I think). My comments were tongue in cheek and maybe that didn't come through - if not, my apologies.
