Yeah I read it years ago. Looks like I need to go back and read it, and see what I find in regards to Yield.

u think his name as "Jerome" in his ex-wife's band shares any intricate similarities with "Jeremy" aka Jer-o-me (pronounced Jeremy) or am I looking into this too much.
    Coincidence?

Ed song. I've only heard the Live at the Garden quote but what he says is (paraphrasing) if it weren't for Jeff and Stone (creating the band) Ed would have ended up playing that song in venues that smelled like piss. Or some such.

Ed wrote Betterman when he was like 16 years old. First played it with Bad Radio (the terrible band he was in pre-Pearl Jam).

What Ed meant at MSG in '03 was that without Stone and Jeff founding Pearl Jam, he wouldn't get to play it at a place like Madison Square Garden ... He'd be stuck playing in places that "smelled like piss."

To those wondering about "Ishmael" - read it. It's good. And not just for insight into the development of Yield, but just in general it is a very deep and thoughtful book. All of Quinn's writings are pretty good.

    Selin, what's goin on?
  • Didnt Ed induct REM into the RR HOF as well? that would make 4 (Doors, Ramones, Neil, REM)>

LOL @ Puberty Love... thanks for the link, I forgot some of those factoids.

We need a weird factoid sheet. Someone should dig 'em all up and list them like they did. I was just reading an old Rumor Pit the other day and thought the same thing then too...

    Anyway.. good post!

sure Bad Radio never hit it big obviously but they were far from terrible...Believe You Me, Crossroads, Reggae Woman, Homeless and Betterman were all real good tunes...

A friend who was trying to help me through a rough patch gave me the book back in ’96. I know for certain that I absolutely HATED, I mean HATED it.
    My recollection:

The concepts were more soft, and cuddly than insightful.

The device is thin. Gorilla communicating gentle wisdom about the state of man. (ugggh)

The prose was uninteresting (I mean, honestly, if you’re gonna stoop to using a gorilla to simply vomit your own ill thought-out ideas at least exercise some skillful prose or other inventive device)

I know this sounds harsh, and I have felt like a genuine ass being that soulless ape who can't commune with the hairy kind—so I’d like to give it another go IF I can get someone who wants to talk about it to do the same.

    Takers?

Nah ... they were terrible. Just terrible. Even their version of Betterman is all f'ed up. There's a reason Ed made it big as the lead singer of Pearl Jam, not Bad Radio.

Interesting for those who are just now getting into the daze. You and me and a few others I know, around here, on the other hand, look at these so-called "bizarre" facts and for each of them, go "knew that"..."nothing special"...."already got the article"...etc.

My 5 year old has this bad habit of saying I knew that all the time...but then again he's 5.

I had no knowledge of Matt's "Puberty Love" song - hillarious, thanks for sharing.
