I have been listening to Fleetwood Mac Live at the BBC... Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac...
anyways, it really makes me want an LP and an old Marshall... crank it up and just play some nasty blues.
It's a great record.
What else are people checking out lately? CDs? Gear?

ditto, I'm ordering the comp in an hour. Same one as yours. You happy with it so far?
i don't have it yet. not until mid-august. and then i won't be back until early september anyway. i leave tomorrow. i have the mbox and software though. i'll buy the second drive when i return.
advice:
-don't bother with a hyperthreading processor as you have to disable it anyway for protools to work. only get a pentium or an athlon.
-order two SATA hard drives. or if you can't in the order process, order an extra one separately from their peripherals ordering area. the board has two SATA outputs so you can hook up the second drive easily. if you go with an external drive, it needs to be firewire, USB isn't cutting it apparently.
-don't bother with a hyper upgraded soundcard as protools and everything plugged into protools only plays through their hardware.
-RAM, and more RAM.
I forgot to mention the killer lead tone I was workin' at practice yesterday... thick and sonorous...
Our demo is turning out to be alright too. I will try to post the songs once we get a couple more ready.
Also, we booked a gig for later this month! We have two or three shows ready for September as well.
House. good luck, and yeah I'm still jonesing for the new Strat, some more George L's cables, and a CC2
and don't worry, the manual for protools is only 700 pages.
The issue with USB externals is that they can't exchange info fast enough to be used by ProTools. They are great for archiving and transfering files, though.
yup.
i'm going to put in a second 160gig drive and dedicate it. much cheaper than the firewire option. that should keep everything happy. i can archive on the system drive once i'm done with sessions.
i'll probably never have to transfer files anywhere but i can use my mp3 player to do that if i have to.

I played a nice american standard strat last night... it played really well, but I just can't get into the strat tones... they just don't fit my playing style.
a '57 has a great neck though, and that is a huge part of the whole thing... maybe I just haven't played the right strat yet, one with pups I would like, etc.
Did you get a DVD-RW drive? The best way to archive and transfer session files is on DVD-R's. The album I engineered last fall fit onto 3 DVD's, it was 12 songs, 6-minute average, 18-track average. If you archive onto DVD-R, then you can box 'em up and shrink-wrap (vacuum seal) and they should last longer than you will.
Back to the original topic...
I'm kinda jonesing for the same shit Ex. is getting, a new computer and an MBox. I just purchased a DD-6 and a Pedal Power 2, so once they get here, I'm gonna have my pedal board pretty much done. My guitar amps are all just peachy, although the Mig might need some new tubes this fall. I've been thinking of selling my Danelectro (vintage 1950's) DC-2... next summer I'll be getting another Tele Deluxe, this time with Gibson Classic '57s. That'll be a pain, though, the pickguard will have to be cut-to-order from a tracing. I guess I would like a new MusicMan Stingray 4-string bass and a half-stack bass amp... but that's definitely just wishing.
Well, they're coming down in price all the time, too. It's something you can always add on when it becomes necessary, or at least desirable. Firewire DVD-R drives are pretty sweet...
that's kinda what i'm thinking. it's going to be at least 6 months (more likely a year) before i'd need to add it.

Those DeArmond 2000 pickups are incredible. I should know, my
"A" guitar for the last 3 years was a sunburst TeleSonic.
But I'm happier with my Fralin Tele Deluxe...

Morgan Freeman/Clint Eastwood 08' for President!
"Make our day"
Well, that's good to know that if I ever get one of those, I can just leave it be.
But my SG Fralin Special will rock one day. Same with the '57 RI Strat. And on those days, I'll finally stop talking about getting them because they will be in my hands!!! ; )

I don't like GAS much either. Sometimes it is fun, but most of the time it is distracting.
I have been seriously considering trading my Dr. Z and my SG for a Twin Reverb reissue and a Taylor 510.
The itch to get a new acoustic. I tell myself, you will still have a nice amp (the Twin) and still have a good guitar(my tele)... PLUS you will get a nice acoustic.
But, it really makes no sense when you consider the band context.
Despite all this, GAS persists.
