there are probably loads who are technically better than most of these but these play with taste, inovation and feel (unlike satriani, van halen, hammett etc)

Eddie Van Halen played with a lot of passion and emotion back in the day... I hear you 200% on Satriani (his licks are damn near cold) but give VH a break.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
I always feel alittle uncomfortable when Iha is mentioned on a list and Corgan is not. Corgan did almost all the guitar parts on Siamese Dream. He wrote most of the music the pumpkins played. Iha just played alot of the leads live because Corgan couldnt because he ws singing. Albeit, Iha did have some great leads like Zero, and really cool instrumentals. I still have to give Corgan the edge
"Even if your heart would listen, I doubt I could explain"-Jimmy Eat World
the problem with van halen is mainly that his songs sucked. at the end of the day thats what the music is about, good songs, and the best guitarists enhance a song and take it to another level, or are great songwriters in their own right, i.e. stone gossard. however, van halens songs where awful and his band must have been one of the worst bands ever to feature such a great guitarist. maybe if he had actually been able to write good songs i might feel differently. but, hey, its all a matter of opinion anyway.
I couldn't put james iha on there knowing what an amazing guitarist corgan was. When his solo album comes it'll be great. But yah I am pretty sure Corgan was a much better guitarist and a perfectionist asshole muscian. Makes him better than most I would think.

Am I the only one that thinks that Marilyn Mansons guitarist John5 is one of the most underated guitarists ever? He is one of my biggest influnces, next to Stoney and Jerry Cantrell. The guy isnt just all powerchords.
Pearl Jam - London Astoria 20/4/06....One hell of a night

What's wrong with things like "James"?
I think that this is crazy.
I think that it should stop.
I think this is the reason
They confirmed John Ashcroft.
#1: Jimi Hendrix, he played with a wah and a fuzz, feedback and his teeth, no one had ever done before or will ever do it that good again
#2: Jimi Page, a founding father. Played a Les Paul with a bow, played with Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and wrote Stairway to Heaven
#3: Tony Iommi, grandfather of Metal. He actually be a grandfather five times over, and he can still kick ass with his SG
#4: Zak Wylde, Tony and Randy's predecessor. Started playing Randy Rhoads solo verbatim at 19
#5: Randy Rhoads, probably would have been higher, but he didn't live long enough.
#6: Dave Mustaine, Metallicas original guitar player, but do drunk to stay in the band. Should still be there though if he wouldn't have been replaced by.....
#7: Kirk Hammet, that's right JofZ, he saved the eighties from Hair Metal, I mean Van Halen kicks ass and everything, but if I see Sammy Hagar do a tow touch again, I'll have to end it all with a 45.
#8: Dimbag Darell, greatest metal pioneer of our generation, still doing solos and teaching a younger generation to as well
#9: Now McCready, a very underated alt/blues guitarist. To bad he wasn't born in the sixties or he would have been a god.
#10: Jerry Cantrel, never mentioned, but if there wasn't Jerry, there wouldn't be any Kurt Cobain, no mcready, and no cool talk box noises to remind us of the golden age of grunge.
Jimi Hendrix
SRV
David Gilmour
Eric Clapton
Duanne Allman
John Frusciante
Derek Trucks
Randy Rhoads
I love Mike, but I think these guys are better. He would be top 15 though.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
I haven't heard a lot of Buckley's playing, can somebody point me in the right direction?

and John Martyn on The Tumbler (recorded when he was 19). Mind you, the Big Man didn't want to be known for being the best, so he abandoned virtuosity. "Less is more", singing, and songwriting became far more important to his art. Fair play to him.

he only has/had one album, and then various B-sides released. Just pick up Jeff Buckley - Grace, put on some headphones, and just listen to every note of music, every lyrics, and try and feel every emotion.

"how many people did die from that?...did P.Diddy kill them?" - Eddie Vedder 2006.02.19
Wow, this thread brings back memories!
Youthinkyou'reold and I were posting from a couple of computers in Timbuktu Africa on this thread, showing some local people how the internet works. So we started posting here with ten or 15 people looking over our shoulders.
McCreadyisgod was answering back and sent the mountain pics, and good wishes from the United States to the oohs and the aahs of the watchers!
I'll never forget that moment, man. A bunch of people who didn't know that the internet really worked, suddenly respected people in the US.
A gesture like that from MIG and JofZ made a difference in Mali Africa!
Meanwhile,,,, knock me off that Robert list I had. Haha,,, I'm starting to suck on guitar!
Put
Buddy Guy - That guy STILL rocks, and had his guitar over his head before Hendrix ever picked one up!
If you look at Buddy Guy play, you'll see where Jimi got his influence!
Les Paul! - Haha,, John Martyn was precurser to the Edge, but Les Paul invented and mastered the tape delay and precursed Jimmy Page and Martyn.
I guess we all come from somewhere and add to it.
