    They will flatten

100%. I had posters that were in tubes for 15-20 years and they held up just fine. When I sold most of them they buyers were all satisfied with the condition.

    why would they be 'trashed"

i've had the albany & long island 2003 posters in the tube since i bought them at the shows.
i have many others in tubes too but are a bit newer.

The concern with rolling a poster is that you can get roll marks on it that are very difficult to get out.  These are basically very light repeating creases in the paper that occur every few inches from the top of the poster to the bottom.  Sometimes they’re hard to see… but if you view the poster from different angles they become visible when light is reflected from alternate angles.  These usually occur if the poster was rolled too tightly or too forcefully.

It’s always better to store a poster flat as soon as you can, but if you’ve gently rolled a poster and stored it in a large diameter tube it should be fine after some efforts to flatten it.
