At No. 106, down from No. 73.

Exactly 100 songs and 12 hours and 11 minutes after "Daughter."
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

I'm listening from the west coast, so this is less of a problem for me, but they really have to figure out how to time this so that it doesn't end at 6 a.m. Eastern. The best songs voted for by the most people will be aired during the daypart with the smallest audience. (They will repeat the top 25 on Monday morning, but still.)

Last year, it ended at 2 a.m. Eastern on Monday. This year, it's going to end somewhere around 7 a.m. Eastern on Sunday. If you've been listening, you've heard them repeatedly say it will finish before the Jet pregame tomorrow morning. There are 105 songs left. It took just over 12 hours to get through the last 100 songs. It will probably take about 13 or 14 hours from now (6 p.m. Saturday) to finish. (There are some lengthy songs still to be played.) That puts the finish at between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. tomorrow. Most of the top fifty will be on in the middle of the night.

No, they had the Jets last year. That was one of the reasons why it ended so late on Sunday/Monday. They had to put the countdown on hold for five hours on Sunday. This time, they've overcorrected to get it done before the game, but it means that it's going to be building to its climax in the wee hours. If they didn't air the Jet game, would anyone miss it? (I say that as a Jet fan.)

Giant fans and Jet fans both have very little reason to pay attention to the Jets (and, again, I say that as a Jet fan).

Maybe. There have been four songs from the 1990s so far within the bottom third of the top 100, and all of them are higher than they were last year. "Vasoline" by Stone Temple Pilots went from not even on the list to No. 86.

As much as I was hoping for higher positions. Having 8-9 songs + Hunger Strike on the list is pretty good. Hopefully next year we can get a song from 1996 and later on there

Oh another reason it's ending early is because it usually starts on Wednesday but they started on Tuesday this year

There may have been some ballot-box stuffing for Stone Temple Pilots. In addition to the aforementioned "Vasoline" going from outside the top 1,043 to No. 86, "Plush" jumped from No. 771 to No. 51.

These countdowns always make for jarring juxtapositions. "Good Vibrations" was one spot behind Bush's "Comedown." "Like a Rolling Stone" was one spot behind "Plush."

Alas, "Alive" falls from No. 37 to No. 40.

EDIT: Followed immediately by "Smells Like Teen Spirit," up from No. 62 to No. 39.
