Surprise performance set listed as Amanda Reckonwith
9.28.25
Ed Solo
Far Behind
With Glen Hansard
{Ed talks about where the name Amanda Reckonwith came from. It was John
Entwistle's hotel pseudonym. He talks about Ohana and thanks the
audience for showing him that people can be good.
He also talks about
how Glen's song, "A Song Of Good Hope" became a mantra for him while
they were trying to get the West Memphis Three off death row and
released from prison.}
Song of Good Hope-(Hansard)
{Last year there was a call to action for Captain Paul Watson who started Sea Sheppard conservation society to stop the hunting and killing of whales. He was arrested in Greenland and incarcerated for months. Japan was trying to extradite which could have led to a life sentence. The call for help worked. He was released after December after 5 months in jail.}
Society-(Hannan)
{Ed talks about the festival winning an award for the third time he thanks all the people involved. Ed has show and tell. He holds up The Global Festival Of The Year Award 2025 from Pollstar. It is the third time Ohana Festival has won. Ed is especially proud because he is very proud of the team that puts the show together. How they work with the people who come to the festival and the Parks Department etc.}
Falling Slowly-(Hansard, Iglová)
Hard Sun-(Peterson)

We decided about a month ago that Amanda Reckonwith was really Ed and decided to take a chance on sitting at the Tiki Stage rail all day. Even if it hadn’t turned out to be him there were some great bands on that stage on Sunday including Wet Leg so I didn’t think it would be a waste of time. Luckily it paid off. I wish he played more songs , but he and Glen were fantastic. Ed got really emotional a few times and he was so happy to be there. Apparently, he got Amanda Reckonwith from John Entwistle. He also told us some of the funny aliases he used to use. As usual here are some photos I took:

I really enjoyed the little set with Glen. There was 2-3 songs worth of talking time but 97% of it felt efficient(for lack of better word) - not rambling incoherence between points A and B as Ed does sometimes.
Having the good fortune of landing 2nd row, near center it was very touching to see the emotion worn on both their faces. I was honestly slow-leaking tears just about the entire set because they allow room for feeling and compassion for one another and genuinely encourage us to take that spirit wherever we go.It's amazing what you hear when you take time to listen.0 -
You must have been right next to me. I was wearing the "Best Amanda EVer" shirt, to acknowledge the occasion. I wore another shirt over it, in case it didn't happen, but when Ed's solo set up was put on stage, I knew I could shed that layer.
It was a very intimate-feeling set, and quite emotional at times, including heartfelt personal comments to the crowd and some affectionate sparring with Glen about music awards each has won.
The setlist was short, and nothing I hadn't heard before, but it all sounded good, and "Falling Slowly" with Glen, is always a peak experience. I felt very fortunate to be there.0 -
Knew it would be him but walked up 20' before and was right off rail...Post edited by gotthebottle on0

I on the other hand had no clue. Was there early to get close for James (one of my favorite bands) and had just pulled out my Ohana towel and plopped down to rest for the next hour. Saw Ed come out and just figured it was one song or him introducing Amanda. Then I noticed his usual stage set up, cursed, and ran over to the Tiki stage. For not being prepared, I still was super close and got great video and photos for my two friends that bailed on Sunday (and were not happy to be getting the texts I kept sending them of what was happening). The vibe was just so good -intimate, emotional, joyous, sun beating down, and both Ed and Glen’s voices were unbelievable. Yeah it was short and yeah I still felt he rambled too long at times in place of an extra song or two (I surfed Doheny earlier that morning and didn’t need to hear the dolphins story) but still was a highlight of the weekend for me and felt very lucky and privileged to catch the set.Oh and still made it back and got a good spot for James. It actually worked out well as was right where Tim came into the audience during Born of Frustration (a song that got me through a bad week in Chicago during the Fall of 1998). Whoo, whoo, whoo!!!!
Throw in Green Day (who is another favorite of mine) and being able to sing along (ok scream) to Jesus of Suburbia and Good Riddance while looking up at the palm trees, the night sky, and breathe in the ocean air in my childhood backyard was very special. I lived in Anaheim for the first 18 years of my life and came basically every weekend to Dana Point as my dad had a boat there (and still does).Favorite day out of all of the days I have been to Ohana so far over the years!Post edited by jlwkams on0
