They need someone who's at least on par with Matt.
Josh Freese, Matt Chamberlin, Mark Giuliana. Similar level of talent/skill and have some connections to the band. Not many drummers at this level of playing in their world..

The next tier (talent-wise) would be their side band buddies, i.e. Barrett Martin, Richard Stuverud.

Point being, from an outside view they have access to some great options. It would be a let down if they went with Klinghoffer.

    Meadowlands, MSG 1, MSG 2 - '98 Jones Beach NY 1 + 3 - '00 MSG 1 + 2 - '03 Boston Garden - '04 Montreal - '05 Boston Garden 1, Meadowlands 1 + 2 - '06 Mansfield 1 - '08 (EV solo) Boston 1 - '08 Chicago 1 - '09 MSG -'10 Brooklyn 1+2 - '13 Central Park - '15 MSG - '16 Fenway - '16 Wrigley - '16 (RRHOF) Brooklyn - '17 Fenway - '18 MSG - '22 MSG 1 - '24

Exactly! Jeff Friedl would be a dark horse, but he's awesome and is a well seasoned drummer.

Let Josh K drum.  Someone younger who can keep up.
Oh lord, please, I hope they don't have Josh K play drums. The guy is a great musician, but he is not a drummer.
When I think great drummers PJ was never on my list of them. The earlier recording of Dave A was pretty good. I liked Irons' work too.

The drummer for the most part needs to hold a beat. PJ is not doing a Rosetta Stoned type song anytime soon.

It's me, cannot wait to send in a YT audition, primus style.  Spent decades practicing for this moment.  I won't forget all the superfans on the forum.  cmon everyone chant it together "one of us! one of us! one of us!"
Want to hear chinas and splashes in the kit again? "one of us! one of us!"

    1. Red Rocks '95, second night starting on chairs
    2. buncha others, doesn't really matter

A bit off topic but this showed me again why I hope it will not be Dave Krusen.
Have you heard the mixes off Ten with Dave Abbruzzese live drums.
It`s so much better than the original recordings.

And again if you want to know how important a drummer is to the sound of a band listen to this Version of live GO from 2023 with Dave A. drums mixed in. This is how they could still sound today!

To each is own I guess, but from a musical standpoint I think these sound terrible. Dave A. is/was a beast, but there is no feel, no swing, and all chops in these examples. Obviously they are a cut and paste job, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and say Dave A. sounds better here.

No feel or swing are two concepts that are about as opposite of Dave a's drumming as I could think of. The "groove" that the band had 92-94 was due to his playing style.
    6/26/98, 8/17/00, 10/8/00, 12/8/02, 12/9/02, 4/25/03, 5/28/03, 6/1/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 6/6/03, 6/12/03, 6/13/03, 6/15/03, 6/18/03, 6/21/03, 6/22/03, 7/12/03, 7/14/03, 10/3/04, 10/5/04, 9/9/05, 9/11/05, 9/16/05, 5/16/06, 5/17/06, 5/19/06, 6/30/06, 7/23/06, 8/5/07, 6/30/08, 8/23/09, 8/24/09, 5/4/10, 5/7/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 10/11/13, 10/17/14, 8/20/16

Pearl Jam drummers are top tier and iconic, and seemingly under appreciated by many of their fans. Especially Matt Cameron.

Klinghoffer can't hold a beat that well. If they went with him, I don't think they'd sell a lot of tickets. Unless they have new a hit song or something.

To my point, I was referring to the videos that cut/paste Dave A. tracks over PJ playing with Matt C. Those examples sound terrible.
