It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife; the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sun up.

When did the Offspring suddenly become a huge act again?

Not complaining as theres nothing wrong with a strong shot of nostalgia, and their last record was solid, but it seems to come out of nowhere.
they are not a huge act.  They're a nice addition to a nostalgia festival.

To gauge a bands true draw... look at the venues they play on their own headline tour.

I believe they did venues like Ruoff and Tinley Park last year.

I don't really think so. I mean, I just saw that the Pussycat Dolls were headlining Ruoff (Deer Creek) this summer. It's a weird concert world we live in these days.

Does this make The War on Drugs a likely headliner for Ohana? How often do they have the same acts in the same year?

Oh no, my frankfurter, my frankfurter fell. It was really good. I can't believe that I dropped it.

Unless he's purposely being cagey, I also thought they were further along with the drummer thing
They are always purposely cagey in interviews.

Indeed. They've always been announcing stuff on their own terms, via their own methods...or at least since the early 2000s.

I wouldn't be surprised if a "big tour" meant similar to what we've seen in recent years where they announce somewhere around 10-15 shows at a time with an emphasis on two shows in the same city.

    Example:
Spring: LA for two shows, Las Vegas for two shows, Dallas for 1 show, Jazz Fest, then three shows in Florida.

    A few weeks off.

    Summer: European summer stuff.

    A few weeks off.

September: Philadelphia for two, NYC for 2, Pittsburgh for 1, Chicago for 2, Minneapolis for 1 show.

They still know people are going to travel if they don't announce 30-40 or so shows at once. This translates into more tickets being sold.

The other option is generally one show per city, but longer shows like in 2013-2016.

I think the days of announcing 40-60 shows at once are long gone.

A "big tour" means in that in PJ terms.

Are they that big?  They played my local arena here in Victoria, BC which holds around 7000 people if it's sold out.

Big bands don't usually play here.  We tend to get medium bands.

Maybe with rock/punk bands on the wane, you've only got so many options these days?

I really did enjoy the show though, and always appreciate when bands opt to play here.  So many ferry trips to Vancouver, so any time we get to avoid it is amazing :)

So... Thoughts on a potential Ohana show. We've got to be a few weeks out from Ohana lineup announcement.  10C typically sends out a message in the form of "make sure all your 10C membership info is up to date" before there's some kind of tour / show announcement.  This always happens right? If we don't see something like that, it could be a sign there's no Ohana PJ show.

Aye I did and they are headlining a huge show here in London this summer........seems a huge step up for them compared to say 10 years ago

No because Ed is always there and sending reminder for 10C Ohana presale has nothing to do with PJ playing

Wait, not the 10C Ohana presale reminder email, I'm talking about an extra "make sure you're info is up to date" email before an actual announcement happens for a tour.  I've definitely seen that reminder come up before tours. Just saying maaybe we'll get that as Ohana lineup announces soon IF Pearl Jam is playing.

And yes, Ed will be there as always...

They are on the 2nd North America leg of a pretty successful world tour right now. It’s been amphitheaters and arenas so not really far off from PJ (minus Fenway and Wrigley). Looks like they are doing the festival circuit to cap it off.

They'd do this if Ed was playing anyway.
