He was never banned, that was myth and exaggerated from story retelling.

It’s crazy that was considered a big controversy back in the day.
    Why woudnt it be?
It’s not like he changed to a song that dropped the F bomb a hundred times.  The lyrics to Radio Radio are pretty tame and even if it’s about corporate censorship most of the audience probably would have never picked up on it.  His label was mad cause they wanted him to play a different song but I don’t know why SNL/ Lorne would have cared that much.
This is obviously not how the world of live television being aired to millions of households (especially in the weird country of bleeping certain words and stuff works. I don't see how one would not think Lorne as the producer would consider it as a serious breech and lack of respect towards the show and him.
I get that Lorne might be a little bothered in the moment but to carry the grudge for over 10 years is an overreaction for the “crime” of doing one song vs another.  The two songs are basically the same length in time with the album version of Radio Radio actually clocking in 9 seconds shorter than Less than Zero.  So the change in song would have basically no affect on the blocking of the show.  Second, Elvis was a last minute replacement for the Sex Pistols because supposedly Sid Vicious had visa problems so SNL needed to find a quick replacement.  They first tried the Ramones who declined and then got Elvis since they happened to be in the area.  You would think that since they were helping fill in that SNL would be a little more lenient to let the artists choose which songs they were going to play.  Plus Radio Radio is way less edgy than whatever the Sex Pistols were probably going to do.  I would think that for a show that identified itself as part of the counterculture, Lorne should have recognized the moment for what it was but since he’s a well known control freak he couldn’t let it go for a decade.
True. But the real question is - should Martin Lawrence have been blacklisted?

I believe they go into this on Questlove SNL doc. Yeah, Lorne said he never banned him.

or it’s a comedy show and it’s ok for people to have a good time and not be cynical about it.

Will never forget Ed had a beaded bracelet in 1992 that spelled "celebrities suck."

I know the world isn’t in the best place, but we don’t have to be miserable about everything.

‘Celebrities aren’t great’ I guess is a take that can be posted on message board intended for fans of a 30+ year old incredibly popular musical combo.

Ed was great. Lonely Island montage was excellent. Post-Nirvana was simply incredible.

EDIT: and Brandi Carlile's vocals were off the charts.

Eddie Murphy stole the show. He was amazing in the two skits he was in with Tracy Morgan.

The other Eddie was great as well on Friday! He sounded amazing and was on fire!
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

I can't stand this type of "reading cue cards off screen" comedy that always drags on for too long. Never been a fan (not American though, so haven't been brought up on it)

But from watching some clips on Youtube, Tom Hanks "In memoriam" thing was nice. Steve Martins monologue was funny. Bill Murry was funny. The sketches are hard to get through though. Miss seeing Bill Hader on there.

    This was cute:

Sabrina Carpenter joking she wasn't born and her parents weren't even born when Paul Simon played that song with George Harrison was pretty funny.  Although I not a fan of Sabrina Carpenter she wasn't bad on that song with Paul.

The Adam Sandler 50 Years song was well done.

The Friday night music special was really good.  The Arcade Fire, St. Vincent, David Byrne and Preservation Hall band was great.  Bonnie Raitt still sounded good.  Backstreet Boys was kind of cool to see the reaction and it sounded good.
The Post Nirvana was cool but I felt like Post Malones voice didn't lend itself to the song. Music sounded great.

*celebrity culture* and by that I mean the whole red carpet what are you wearing phoney lovefest and TMZ bullshit. Hate this.
I love seeing talented people doing their thing. For instance Pedro Pascal (will watch anything since Narcos), or queen Kate McKinnon (who always makes me laugh), or Julia Louis Dreyfus who is a comedy genius (especially since the brilliance that is Veep rather than Seinfeld).

Julia Roberts told us in Notting Hill that none of it is real.  Or something to that effect.

Confirmed.  Watched on Show Case (Canada).  The best part was Jimmy Fallon (hosting) acknowledging the thousands of people in the building and the “hundreds” watching on Peacock!
