Same...and I can about kick myself when I look back at all the shows near me that I missed before I really got into PJ. I was too into Soundgarden and STP at the time and they just weren't big on my radar.

  • I’ll be completely honest here. As I’ve gotten older, Yield has come down the list of my favorite PJ albums. Used to be top 3 but now I’m not sure it cracks my top 5.
The first 4 songs are the best first 4 of any PJ album though. Those songs turned me into a huge fan when I was a kid. It’s also very interesting that Jeff said he thinks it’s their best. I believe Stone said Vs was their best. But Wishlist, Pilate, Low Light, PMPM, and MFC just don’t do it for me. DTE and GTF have lost their edge since they’re over played, still great songs. The two best songs on this album are In Hiding and Faithful.

Nice assessment! Yes, In Hiding and Faithful are my favorites.

I don't think they play these two much in the same night post Yield tour, have they?

    I've never cared for GTF.

I would say Brain, Faithful, Pilate, MFC, Low Light, In Hiding are top tier

The flow of the album is what does it for me.

I was in college in the Albany NY area at the time, and the local record store had a midnight release party for Yield. I got a TON of swag - posters, pictures, records, and a giant Pearl Jam Yield vinyl sticker that I put on the roof of my red 1989 Geo Spectrum hatchback lol.

It's a top 2 album for me, this and No Code. Yield was number 1 for a long time, now they go back and forth.

Today's also the anniversary of my first tattoo, the words Pearl Jam on my right arm, in 1999.

Bump! I say we have a Yield birthday month instead of just one day in honor of my favorite release. IMO it felt like Yield unofficially ushered out the grunge movement much like grunge killed hair metal. Yield was the band older, more mature, less angry and finding their new voice for the years to come. If Dark Matter turns out to be their final opus they can hold their heads high! Cheers to Yield.

Ten will always be my favourite ever album but the sentimentality of Yield as it was the album they were  touring when I first saw them brings it to first equal. Would have loved to have seen all of it live-am missing No Way, Pilate and PMPM, and I don't spin it as much now, but if any of it is on and I'm fully engaged with it I remember just how seriously fucking good it is.

I love Yield.  I didn't full understand or appreciate No Code when it first came out and drifted a while.  Yield was different.  Given To Fly was a kickass first single. I bought it immediate spun the shit out GTF/Pilate/Leatherman.   I lived in a smaller town so the local record stores weren't great and didn't get albums on release day.  I asked a coworker who commuted in to grab me a copy.

I'd only ever seen PJ at Lolla in my early/mid teen's, so a powerful but short afternoon set.  Missoula was my first real Pearl Jam show.  It sucked me right in.   We ended up doing Missoula because we weren't sure if we'd back in time for our local Vancouver show.   I was doing a cross Canada Trip with one of my best friends, so my insurance plan was to cheat for a few days and drive south of Calgary to Missoula.  Show was amazing and hooked me right in.  We made it back 2 days before the Vancouver show and hung out in Kamloops for a few days, then scored amazing size stage tickets when they were announce on the radio near Hope (where the filmed Rambo).   Then I got back from trip, was maybe home 2 days, and I go to my brother, hey you want to go Seattle? And we race down for the second Seattle show and got there about 5 minutes before PJ started to play.

So many good memories of Yield and the tour.   I'm never 100% sure what my favourite PJ album is, but Yield is usually at the top of the list.

It was also my gateway to No Code.  After listening to Yield, I also fell in love with No Code, so it was all win.

An incredible album. My local HMV record had a few cool promo items for it's release. Man, do I miss those days. Much Music & HMV had a contest to see Pearl Jam in Phoenix. There were Pearl Jam Yield sign banners, posters, stickers, an interview CD, HMV / Yield worker tags etc..  The team that worked on advertising & promoting Yield, did a hell of a job.
