Cage The Elephant opened for QOTSA in Winnipeg 2 years before their debut album came out. I called my wife between bands, and she asked how the opener was, I said "they were energetic AF, but I didn't catch the name, something about Elephant".
same...saw them open for QOTSA on the anniversary of Q's first album. They played the Vogue in Indpls....1500 capacity venue. Was awesome.
Saw CTE opening for Stone Temple Pilots in 2010 at Roy Wilkins in St. Paul.  We liked them immediately.

    Thought of some more...

2003 White Stripes with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs opening.

    2003, the Decemberists

Also in 2003, I saw the final show of Carissa's Weird. Half the band went on to become Band of Horses.

I only ever got to see Sepultura 2.0 :(   I wish I'd gotten the chance to see the original band.

I did get to see Soulfly play Nailbomb in it's entirety so that was something (I love the live Nailbomb album).

They did back to back nights . I was at school and went to both nights back to school each day. I felt like a complete legend. I got my ticket signed and my hi top boot signed by Paulo. Absolutely magical

Another band I saw early on was the Violent Femmes.  I saw then in a seedy club in San Jose California.  They came on an hour late.  It was a very warn night, a crowed club full of restless punk rock fans.  I'm fairly certain if they had waited to come out much longer, violence would have occurred.  I often wondered if all that was carefully orchestrated?  They put on a killer show (but no one was actually murdered, lol!)

Arctic Monkeys November 2005 Mercury Lounge NYC. 500 people. US debut. They were so young full of energy back then.
  • I saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in 2001ish at the Saint in Asbury.  Maybe 50-75 people there

The Weeks and Matt & Kim.

Saw the weeks in 09 and Matt and Kim around the same time. They both never really got big.

The Oh SEES in 2010.  Thats when Floating Coffin came out and theyve grown a lot since then.

The Clarks.  They would play local bars in Western Pa.  They should have became bigger. This was 2000.

I tried listening to them a little before that time.  Didn't care for them.  Wanted a little harder music at that time of my life, lol.
