    Happy heavenly birthday to this bass legend, John Baker Saunders, who was born on September 23rd, 1954 in Montgomery, Alabama. Baker was the bluesy soul in Mad Season, and he was about 40 years old when we recorded the "Above" album, compared to me, Mike, and Layne being about 27 years old. 40 seems so young to me now, but that extra age and wisdom that Baker had gave us exactly what Mad Season needed. In fact, the first two songs that Mad Season rehearsed were Baker's "Wake Up" and Mike's "River Of Deceit." Sometimes I really miss Baker's sense of humor and his wise view of the world. But you can still hear that cool wisdom in his restrained, classic, totally ace bass lines. Love, Barrett
