Songs We May Never Hear Again

Around the Bend
No Way
Evacuation
Greivsnce (please prove me wrong!)
Thin Air
Cropduster
Ghost
Get right
Green Disease (big mistake)
All or None
Marker in  the Sand
Gone
Gonna See My Friend
Johnny Guitar (Did we ever see it???)
Supersonic
Sperd of Sound
Force of Nature
The End (totally fine to never hear again)
My Fathers Son
Swallowed Whole (the best song that REM never wrote)
Let the Records Play
Yellow Moon (big mistake .. much better than Lowlight)
Alright (Alright …)

What song isn’t on here that is INSANELY close to landing here? (Brain of J .., Jesus, boys … it RIPS!)
What tune am I absolutely wrong about? (Gone)
Which one is your wish to return? (Greivsnce)
which one are you fine with being gone? (Johnny Guitar … although I LOVE the shout out)
which one returns in their theater run in about ten years? (All or None)
which ‘regular’ would you dump to make room for one of these? (Elderly … and I will ALWAYS lose to a song along)

and, I’ll say EVERY SINGLE SONG off of ‘Dark Matter’ better stick around!

    About half of Gigaton.

And God's Dice is REM's best song.

I was stoked to get The End in Brisbane. Goes to show its all subjective. Really surprised less rarities were played in Auckland but they fed off the energy and smashed us with hit after hit. The Riot Act deep cuts seem to be the ones gathering the most dust.

If you want to talk singles, I don’t know if we will ever hear World Wide Suicide again

    How long has it been?

Other than that, Most of Backspacer and Lightning bolt are probably out

They still do a great job mixing it up but the last few years they have been pulling from a much smaller pool
    of songs, which sucks.

    Agreed!
  • I really want marker in the sand!
  • I think one of the best moments I’ve had at a show was Chicago 2 last year. Tremor - Even Flow - Green Disease - Immortality……and then fucking Marker! I was completely shocked. Then Deep to follow 🔥 2023 was fantastic, hoping for 2025 to be similar

It was probably inevitable that it wouldn't last forever but I do miss the days of "any song in the catalog is in play for tonight"

There’s definitely a few I understand from a vocal standpoint but there’s others that I don’t understand. With all the great slow songs they have I’m not sure why just breathe keeps getting put in that spot.
  • Last year, 2023, any song was in play

  • What I want is to attend s four night special where they'll attempt to play all/most of their catalogue like Philly 09.
  • ZodZod Posts: 10,584
I mean, most of the reason it's so hard to play them all is after you spend a 2.5 hour show playing the better part of an album, and some greatest hits, and some fan favourites, you've only got a few spots level to dig deep.

It's why new album tours are pretty good to hear a new album, but also non-album tours are great because they can dig deeper into the catalog.   Loved my Dark Matter shows, but I also wouldn't complain if we got a non-album tour in the next few years.  I don't think we have zero change of hearing a song again, just lower odds on an album tour :)

I want this complete list to be the Sydney II setlist!  =)

Sydney I will be my son’s first ever show and he’s compiled a playlist on my phone of some of his favourite songs:

    No Way
    Evacuation
    Cropduster
    Ghost
    Get right
    Green Disease
    Marker in  the Sand
    Gone
    Gonna See My Friend

    “Do not postpone happiness”
    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
    (Tim Rogers)

Ever since 2021 with the resumption of shows, the setlist has been much shorter. Obviously, since they've been promoting new albums AND they gotta fill in a few crowd favorites and covers, that doesn't leave much room for the rarities and B-sides.

    It is what it is.

This is my biggest concern. I too have yet to witness although I feel that I had a few missed opportunities.

Heck, while we’re at it, apparently most of Vs seems to be fading away as those songs seem becoming only  “special performances” on the tour. Heck, “Go” has only been played once (!) in 2024 and that’s a real shame.

Out of the four shows I saw on the ‘23 tour (both St. Paul and both Chicago), them busting out Marker was probably my favorite moment. And they absolutely killed it! That whole setlist during Chicago N2 was bonkers.
