Yes because that totally happened before. Jesus we're turning into a world of pessimists. You woke up today and are living you're life yeah? Keep that idea alive instead of propagating fake end time messages to people who are all gunna have to live through the next 4 years together.

It could be so much worse, you have no idea.

EDIT: PJ chose not to tour much in the years 2017-2019. Nobodys fault but their own
He may have been using sarcasm.
His sarcasm was showing his true underlying feelings

I’m more than happy to welcome back Seven O'Clock and Dance of the Clairvoyants to the regular setlist rotation. Even Bros can kindly piss off to the washrooms.

While the hatred toward those who voted for Trump is expected from the losing party the reality is the Dems have nobody to blame but themselves for the Republican victory.
If you can't win an election with everything going for you including: (women's rights, a black female candidate, the support of almost every major media outlet, 3 times the amount of campaign funds, support of Hollywood and the biggest stars in the music industry plus an opposition candidate who is accused of being Hitler), then there must be another issue.
That problem was installing a DEI hire empty pantsuit as their candidate and triing to sneak her across the finish line without offering any policies, calling her opponent a fascist and his supporters garbage. Based on the resounding Republican victory up and down the ticket its obvious America wasn't buying the bullshit the Democrats were selling.
So call us all the names that you want because that's what you do best.

"Everything going for you"? Democrats had an unpopular incumbent president whose term was marked by the steepest inflation in 40 years, and the person who ended up with their nomination was an untested, largely unknown figure. They also had to deal with discontent over a foreign war that a segment of their base was willing to cut off its nose to spite its face over (i.e., vote third party or not vote at all to protest Democratic support of Israel, and thereby help elect an ardently pro-Israel Republican who's anti-Muslim to boot). And I wouldn't be so sure that having a black female candidate was a tailwind. Your own "DEI hire" comment reflects a strain of what I'll charitably call "backlash" that means that the candidate's demographics may have actually been a headwind.

And please stop with the fake outrage about Biden supposedly calling Trump's supporters "garbage." Trump constantly denigrates entire swaths of America, including whole cities and states. He called fallen veterans "suckers" and "losers." He called the country the world's garbage can. His entire campaign is based on the premise that America is not great. Stack up all the disparaging things he's said about various groups and places and it's hard to come any conclusion other than that Donald Trump hates America.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

No power changes hands until January 2025. For many people, their lives could get much worse after that if Trump actually does what he says he will do. Consider yourself fortunate if you're not one of them.

He’s pissed on military members many times over, and you can go on and on about all the vile things he’s done and says. Bottom line is he was elected because he mirrors what this country is and was founded on. Just ask the natives how well things turned out for them.

There is no defending a vote for trump when you are standing shoulder to shoulder with fascists, racists, homophobes and every other type of discriminatory group under the sun. Not looking forward to these next four years.

I do. I also consider myself fortunate that I don't belong to any of the groups in America whose lives are going to be made harder if Trump does what he says he will do. I have seen my net worth soar today as a direct result of Trump's election. But I don't make political judgments  based on what is good for me. I make political judgments based on what will be good for the country.

Anyway, my point stands about your flippant, facile "living you're [sic] life" comment. The wounds today are only psychic. The real harm comes later, when power actually changes hands.

I never said anything about Trump other than calling an entire group of people that don’t agree with you racist or stupid or clowns is a bad look and a bad take. I'm in the same boat as a white man.  The very essence of "white privilege" in that these issues don't exist for a majority of the nation, so they deem it ok to not vote, or simply say "we will be ok" with either candidate.  I was in that same bubble in my 20s, young and ignorant, until I matured and realized how the system is set up.  Along with meeting many beautiful people of other races and religion, who I love and consider family.  Including my wife.

I wonder how this post will age in say, a year from now or in 2026 or 2027? We have people commenting on posts from 2006 on this board and I have a feeling you will see "Time to take out the trash" pop up when things start to go bad. Especially, if there becomes a nationwide abortion ban, or we pull out of NATO, or you hear horror stories of mass deportations. If these things do come true under Trumps watch... it's going to get ugly. I hope that is not the case for all Americans and fans of this band in the next four years.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

Not gonna re-litigate this, my side lost. but I do wonder, and this is a serious, non-troll question. What do you like about Pearl Jam music? How do you square the lyrics with your own personal beliefs? Or the ethos of the band as a whole, which is frequently stated outright at shows and in every other available outlet. I'd never go to a Lee Greenwood or Toby Keith or Kid Rock show because their material and their beliefs would irritate me beyond any pleasure the music might bring. This honestly confuses me, I just couldn't ever stand giving my money to someone who fundamentally disagreed with everything I believe where those tenets are intrinsic to the music and the band. Do you just not pay attention to the lyrics? Take a piss whenever Eddie talks? How do you get through a show?
I’ve regularly disagreed with some of the stances the band has taken over the years but have always respected their conviction. If I don’t agree with something said on stage (such as 2016 when he talked so glowingly of Justin Trudeau) I simply don’t clap or cheer and refrain from being disruptive in the moment.

I personally appreciate a good political song but prefer individual stories, and I’m happy to follow an artist on their journey and see where they take me.

I’ll never tell any artist to “shut up and play.”

    Fair, thanks for the response!
We need more interactions like this around here. A lot of posters could learn from this. +1000

Be careful about making sweeping pronouncements about America based on a candidate or a party getting a bare majority-- and possibly, once all the votes are counted, only a plurality-- of the votes cast. Trump winning with 51 percent (at the moment) or 49.6 percent (where it could end up) or something in between doesn't reflect anything much different about America than when Obama won 53 percent of the vote in 2008. In both cases, the country was closely divided, and it elected two very different leaders because we have an essentially two-party, winner-take-all system. The ultimate result was not so much about "America" as it was about which candidate better appealed to a narrow swath of unaligned voters in the middle of the electorate. These numbers are an oversimplification, but if 40 percent of the electorate favors Democrats and 40 percent of the electorate favors Republicans, you get 55 percent of the 20 percent that are truly unaligned, and you'll win 51-49 in a two-party race. Parties will claim mandates in these situations-- Trump did last night-- but they tempt fate if they don't recognize how precarious their support is. Trump called it an "unprecedented" mandate and, while it may be unprecedented for him-- it will likely be the first time he has won a plurality of the vote-- it's a very weak mandate by historical standards. If this is an unprecedented mandate, what was Obama's mandate? Or Reagan's? Or Nixon's in '72? Or LBJ's in '64?

Having said all that, is it troubling that somewhere between 49 and 51 percent of voters were willing to vote for a person like Trump? Yes, it is. The unwillingness of people to hold people accountable for bad behavior because they are on your "team" is one of the more repugnant features of modern American life, and the lack of accountability will only breed more bad behavior. This goes a lot deeper than politics and, in some ways, the phenomenon in the larger culture paved the way for it to reach the level it has in politics. Think of sports fans who cheer for a guy on their team who is accused of a violent crime or the use of PEDs but who vilify a guy on a rival team who is accused of the same types of things. Remember, a lot of Trump's appeal for a good chunk of his voters is less about his positive qualities and more about the fact that he hates the right people and makes the people who support the other "team" angry.

You are spot on with this 100%.  I've witnessed this very concept across the board with MAGA.  It's somehow engrained in their mentality.  Another pattern you might notice, and they try to hide, is their self-hatred.  Anyone who feels the need to lash out, and put others down, is for sure at war with themselves.  That is the MAGA way.

That is almost impossible to do, and bear in mind that Trump will be 82 and even more diminished by the time 2028 rolls around so it's not clear that he'd be a viable candidate then. But hey, Zimbabwe kept "re-electing" Mugabe until he was about 150 years old...

This is so good, and very clever.  The people only focused on the "Liberal Tears" part, and the fact that they are voting against their own self interest went in one ear and out the other.

'Merica!  Good lord.  I've never been this embarrassed for my country.
All this time, it always felt like the MAGA supporters were trolling.
They want to troll the Libs so bad that they are willing to trash this country to make a Lib cry.
Please make it make sense.  To me it makes sense to strive for things that make us better collectively.

They'd rather suck on the billionaire dicks than vote for their own self interest.
Trump even mocked them at his recent rally when he mimicked the cock suckers

Anyone cheering today needs to have their head examined. It’s a horrible day in American history. Nothing good will come of this, mark my words. I won’t say I told you so cause I’m not that kind of guy. America and Democracy are done. Never would have felt this way with any other republican candidate. This guy ain’t Republican. Good luck with RFK, the Hulk and Herschel Walker running things. It’s a who’s who of morons. Pathetic.

CONGRATULATIONS DONALD J. TRUMP - THE 47th PRESIDENT of THE UNITED STATES!!!
    Fuck you
Oh wow. This is not how we should be handling a free and fair election result.
I think gotthebottle's reaction is to the taunting nature of shecky's post. As I said earlier, Trump is not reading this message board. Posting congratulations to him here in all-CAPS is just a way to taunt those of us who are unhappy about his victory.

(By the way, I would say the same thing if Harris had won and people were taunting Trump supporters or gloating about it.)
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

This video popped up in my feed, and may be helpful to some.
I've never heard of Robert Reich, but will pay attention to his commentary in the months to come.

    The comments are interesting.
    My favorites:
    • "They're eating the cats, they're eating the dogs" proved a more effective message than "Let me help you buy your first house."
    • "The forest was shrinking, but the trees kept voting for the axe; for the axe was clever and convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood, he was one of them."

Robert Reich was Secretary of Labor during Bill Clinton's first term as president. (Presumably, you have since looked this up, or perhaps the video mentions it.)
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Nonetheless, we need to be better than that. We cannot fudge you one another, this is a time to heal.
