Yeah. I totally get being disappointed by Democrats. But seeing both as the same, yeah. IDK what world you live in.

The fact that people could be a fan of this band, yet would still somehow vote for Trump & Republicans in 2024 astounds me to no end.

What is "this stuff"? How many songs have they written about presidents stepping down from being the nominee or not stepping down?
I would up vote this comment if I had the option because it truly made me laugh out loud.  Good one Spiritual Chaos.

You can say much about the US election, but the entertainment value is certainly sky high. As sad as that is, I find it hard to root for any of the camps.
The republicans will most likely win this one.
One camp wants to end democracy and is saying it out loud. Trump sucks up to Russia and NK. If you can’t root against that then I can’t help you.
I don’t have a say in this election, but if I did I would probably end up as a conservative democrat. I’m not a big politics guy.

As for politics and music, I never listened to PJ for their politics. They fill my home with music and art, not political guidance.

Contrary to the popular beliefs of our time, it’s OK to have friends, family members, people you look up to, sports figures you admire, and artists you love to have different ideologies than you may have. I have found it actually helps to establish a an open and empathetic mind. The ultimate sign of respect.

It's really not hard to compartmentalize it. If your politics are right of center, 90% of your favorite artists are on the other side. You're connecting with something completely different than electoral politics

This isn’t about taxes and stuff like that. It’s about women receiving healthcare and mass deportations. People that support that have no place in my life.

Music as a whole can do so, in some instances. But this band very much leans towards social & societal justice, economic reform, and conservation of natural resources.

Concepts that are utterly foreign to today's Republican party in an unquestionably demonstrative fashion.

I actually agree with this. I could actually talk to old school Republicans and find common ground and that doesn't exist anymore. It died with John McCain.

The party of Lincoln is now the party of Trump. And no one benefits from it, save for Trump himself.

"All the bills go by and initiatives are taken up
By the middle; there ain't gonna be any middle anymore
    "

Ed correctly predicting the erosion of the middle class. The President at the time? Bush 41. The public display from Unplugged was just a little extra declaration of the song's message: things are changing rapidly and you should let people know how you feel. Loved ones, or otherwise.

"And the cross I'm bearin' home ain't indicative of my place/Left the porch, left the porch

The disconnect of middle America by the religious right has been ever present since the end of the Vietnam War. A theme later revisited in Yellow Ledbetter. Believe it or not, you would still get looked down upon in some parts of the country for having long hair. And those parts were deep red.

Porch & YL were attempts to bridge the divide, but also show that said divide still exists.

Corduroy didn't start as a political song, but it has become one with time.

When Ed sings "absolutely nothing's changed" or "EVERYTHING'S changed". It's a commentary on the american political system, and how we need to be the architects of change ourselves.

Also, when he sings "can't find what I want because it's peace, man!" That is an inherently anti-war message, and you can't get more political than that.

    -------

I'm actually surprised that people WOULDN'T consider Leash a political song.

It fits perfectly on a playlist with Alice Cooper's "Elected". Just needs Ed in an Uncle Sam hat.

It's not just an angry song, it's a call to arms for young people & has been for 30 years. Stay angry, and do something about it. Get involved. Makes shit happen. Ed & the band are by your side, even if most politicians aren't.

If there's anything I've made perfectly clear on this board, it's this: F*** Platinum Pricing🙃

I pay face value, and advocate for others to do the same😘

The fact that people could be a fan of this band, yet would still somehow vote for Trump & Republicans in 2024 astounds me to no end.
It astounds you that music has broad appeal that transcends ideological differences?
The mental gymnastics republican Pearl Jam fans have ti go through is entertaining.
It's really not hard to compartmentalize it. If your politics are right of center, 90% of your favorite artists are on the other side. You're connecting with something completely different than electoral politics
And what’s your theory as to why this is?

I know Biden isn’t perfect and legitimate concern regarding his age but anyone that would still vote for Trump after last nights wacko speech is beyond me. Forget the felony charges, insurrection, 2x impeached, abuse conviction and lies and hate rhetoric, Trump is a nut.
Good to see that Trump derangement syndrome is alive and well!
Make sure to keep your focus on all the things you despise about Trump.
No need to worry about the meltdown within the Democratic party since they were exposed to all of America at the debate.
34 felonies, 10 thousands lies and doesn’t believe in democracy. Hell of a candidate. Absolute joke of a person. Just watch his RNC speech, haha.
Can't stand too watch or listen to this Clown .
