Here goes, here's a comprehensive list of funny tunings, some of which I've given before, but hell, a long list with all the tunings in one place saves scrolling the board for others.....

Erm ...
Well, even on 12 string guitars, the octave G is often about 10 or 11, the same gauge as an E, so this gauge should theoretically go up to G. You have to wind the string up slowly and carefully but it should reach G.
in reality its probably just my tuner that is cheap. Normally I get it by ear, but im just not trained to remember that note yet. Its probably telling me my G is flat when in reality its sharp

Open D rocks on an acoustic! Sounds so full and deep. Have that with an electric with standard tuning and the magic is ready to be made!

It'll come with practice and with listening to songs that are in these keys.
Red House by Jimi Hendrix is in B, and if you can hear that in your head and hum it, you can tune your string to it. F# is the same key as if you had your guitar in DADGAD and put a capo on the fourth fret. If you can remember and hum that key also, you can do it too.

By the way: the little b symbols signify flats!

Neither do I, but a small chromatic tuner can do miracles. They don't have to cost much.
Oasis-Supersonic, the intro is an f#
Get a tuner though, i dont know how else to help you. even one with just the 5 notes on the guitar can be manipulated to get alternate tunings
I might add, that was my very first post on this board.
