Will this start a total downsizing of tours period?

Is it that or are there cases of tours being booked that massively overshoot an artist's popularity? Both in terms of venue sizes and ticket prices. I've seen a few tours the last couple years that matched on despite being half sold at best and I had no idea how the math worked on that.

I believe it’s the artist & their management that overestimate the market! I can just here Jlos manager assuring her that she could sell out an arena’s tour

More of a rightsizing and it needs to happen to more acts.

Agreed.  Smart, highly talented bands like The Dream Syndicate and The Juliana Hatfield Three are playing in excellent venues at super reasonable prices.  If it were not for my shot hearing, and despite being on a mostly fixed income, I would be seeing lots of music these days by seeking out great artists in smaller venues.  In fact, over a fairly long lifetime of seeing music (first show was in 1965) easily two thirds of the best shows I've seen have been in clubs and theaters.  A smaller percentage were in larger venues like Winterland or the S.F. Civic (and even those are obviously smaller than stadium shows).

Well good.  Maybe we can get lower ticket prices back.  The increase seemed like a money grab for lost revenue.

I for one do not go to nearly as many shows as I used to.  30+ shows a year on average.  Now i might do 10.  Maybe 10.

175 a ticket for two then food and drinks, merch, is almost a $1000 night now.

Yeah me too I’m looking to go to shows with ticket prices below a $100
Middle Kids = $40 per ticket
    QOTSA = $ 80 per ticket
PJ is the only band I’ll go for over $ 100 but no more than $ 200 per ticket

This. My wallet size hasn't changed, but ticket pricing definitely has. I've become a lot more picky with choosing which shows to hit.

Not to mention the fact that with TM dynamic pricing I have little incentive to jump on tickets right at on sale. There's almost always been last minute cheaper than face (or face value at most) tickets available.

True story.  I passed on getting Metallica Tix for the 2 night no repeat show in Metlife. Buddy had a spare up high and I passed.
I got on a train headed to the venue and bought GA both nights like that for face and lower.  I will always buy day of rather than them hold my money for 12 months now.

Yeah so I look for cheaper shows now too.  No Rolling Stones for me no matter a bucket list or not.

Are you just scoping out TM for their price drops, or going to Stub Hub and looking for people who drop list prices?

I usually find luck on Stub Hub, but never find anything good on TM day of.

Both.  I scour them both and look to see any trends, low asks, etc..  I once scored half price tix in GA for the Misfits on Ticketmaster.  Tried that again when they were in MSG but it didn't happen.  So it doesn't always work, lol.

That’s pretty true. I used to win tickets off the radio for a living. They’re decent seats at best and the bigger the band, the lower quality the seat. It makes sense when you think about it - but at least they’re free.

Sat the farthest away from the stage  last summer when they played here in Sweden. Got some James Stewart vertigo in how far up and away I was. But it was a great concert. Paid 70 dollars or something. Well worth it.

I always wondered how people did it so often. For the Pixies, they were giving it away on the Sunday night when the Grammys aired, so I figured I had a good chance of getting through and Neil Young was a random entry online for sports talk station in NY

I was always good at actual contests. Stuff like: name these 5 song clips in 30 seconds, or trivia questions, etc. The funny thing is since no one listens to radio anymore, the volume of callers has significantly died off.
Forget about the "caller #9 crap - that's impossible to time out.

Stones are playing near me tonight in Philly.

The lowest price I see is $136.00 and you can imagine where those seats are.

I kind-of-sort-of want to see them but as of right now I'm not up to  going to a show with 50,000 and fighting the traffic too.

I'll see them next Tour?(IF they tour again? How many times has that been asked over the decades?=HA)

I used to win tickets through Sirius online entries and got a few really nice seats. They were local shows (not the fly away ones they advertise) and I was within 15 rows of the stage for each show I won.

I haven't seen any of these contests in years.

It is kind of nice that there seems to be some pushback forming on concert ticket prices.   I suppose if your ultra famous it makes little difference, but it does seem a fair number of acts are struggling to move tickets at today's elevated prices.    Did TM and Bands push it to far with high face value and platinum tickets.

If you push people away from live music, it could be hard to reel them back in.

As a fan watching what's happened to the live concert industry over the past 5 to 10 years has been challenging.

This part is maybe kinda obvious but interesting to start seeing it in quotes.

I think ticket prices are reaching a breaking point too. You can't shell out 150-200 dollars per ticket and go see the same amount of concerts like when they were 50.

100%. $700 for 2 shows at Fenway.  My wife has basically told me that she'll pass this year and recoup the $350 (and likely even more with less drinks/food/etc).  It's crazy.

I skipped Fenway(so far) this time around too.  I'm not spending that kind of money anymore.  Will they sell out?  Sure.  Just not with the help of me and my money.  If more people choose to do this then the prices will stabilize.  Just like merch, if u keep spending the money they will keep making it.

The Black Keys have released mediocre music for over a decade, drag their asses through their shows, and are generally pricks.... couldn't have happened to a better band.
