Ryan is awesome. He loves PJ and has helped me (and countless others) tremendously over the years. This is so cool - listening to Stone describe how he plays a song to a hard core fan? Doesn't get better than that. Go give the video a like, even if you don't play. Thanks Ryan (and Stone)!

I have the pleasure of knowing Ryan personally. He is an incredible person. We jammed quite a few times and it was always a blast. I couldn’t be happier for him  that he developed a relationship with stone.

Totally. I watch videos of both. Reckon a PJ cover band with Ryan doing Stone's parts and Matt doing Mike's would be fun. It's rad they do the songs in alternate tunings too. I don't learn those as I only have access to one guitar and I can't bother my hole tuning it six different ways.

Given Watt has recently recorded the Stones I wonder if the open G tuning they're using on a few songs was inspired by Keith (even though his is five strings not six as the lads use).

Awesome interview and so cool he is friends with Stone now and they geek out on chords together. I just wish you could hear Stone’s guitar!

  • Thanks for posting this @lastexitlondon! Probably 40% of all pearl jam songs I play have been learned from this dude, who has a gift for making things easy. With the group of guys that I jam with right now, it's heavy on the 90s, so it's basically Ryan and Marty Music that we go to for tabs. I give Ryan the edge because as much as Marty is helpful and a happy dude, he takes way too long for simple chords instructions - Ryan is more of a level 2 for existing guitar players, which is appreciated. How on earth did Ryan connect with Stone initially?? No surprise that they keep connecting - Ryan is clearly an easy going person that Stone feels comfortable to nerd out with about weird tunings haha.

Yeah I think Matt (Let's Play All) is a bit more advanced-does solos too. But I compare both and use my own ear so hopefully combining all three means I get close to whatever it is I'm trying to figure out.

Yeah good point on Daughter-though Watt's recording with the Stones was obviously more recent. For those of you who love Upper Hand it's in Open E and Stone said they should do that in the near future which is great.

It did suck we couldn't hear Stone's guitar. Maybe WhatsApp or something else that you can record would work better Ryan?

The open G on DM songs was definitely Keith inspired, Stone talks about it in the Broken Record pod he did with Jeff
