My 8-Year Old's First PJ Show Upcoming Portland
Good evening PJ community!
I wanted to share the excitement of my 8YO son, Quinn, for his first Pearl Jam show this Friday in Portland. He has been listening to DM non-stop on his discman now for weeks. It feels profound for me as a human and father to experience the power that authentic music and art has on imagination, creativity, love, connection, and sense of belonging. It is an indescribable feeling to relive through Quinn’s experience and my own at once how Pearl Jam inspires and captivates and invigorates life.
I feel immeasurable love and connection when watching Quinn be swept away in his own world of thought and sound in his earphones. My first show was Missoula 1998 for my 16th birthday after intently listening and following the band on my walkman and discman since Ten. Quinn reminds me that my attentiveness and “being with” him in our experiences of life together is what matters most–whether we are in nature, at home in Montana, at a PJ show–anywhere—we are together. Soul memory.
We can’t wait to share it with all of you! Quinn commented to me this morning on the way to school, “I hope they play Stevie because I don’t think I can wait until the next tour."
“Be mighty. Be humble. Be mighty humble.” Our shared favorite EV line on DM and a beautiful, poetic axiom.
Immense gratitude for the band in every incarnation and for continuing to usher in what they do to share with future generations. This album in particular will always and forever be a part of Quinn’s growing up and out into the world. Thank you Pearl Jam. Thank you incredible fans. Thank you 10Club. Thanks to each of you who make this extraordinary experience possible to share and relive. May the Barolo flow plentiful for many years to come!

Is this the one? incredible love that Lennon song and cover. Where were you and your dad in the arena? What do you remember?
She missed seeing them with me in PHX '22 - wife said "Eddie swears too much." I made her promise we could see them the next time they played Seattle, no matter what.
I also feel the intergenerational draw. My daughter's first real tour was Dead and Company in '22 (how that flew but PJ didn't, I don't know) - like a few of us here I was caught in that era between peak Dead and early PJ, and am so happy she's gotten to see some of the people and experiences that really shaped my youth. We went from Boulder all the way to Bethel, catching 6-7 shows along the way - it was really something for a 5yo, and the start of our now annual summer adventure.
She's written her first song, with a cheap plastic ukulele, that she'll be playing in her 1st grade talent show next week. I promised her we'd build her a real uke when we get back from our trip this summer. As long as she promises never to smash it on stage.

Safe travels, have fun, enjoy the music, and do some fun sightseeing and/or eating on the trip! Sometimes the journey and enjoying the city is almost as good as the show!
Hope Quinn has the time of his life!

Have the best time our time was spiritual, precious, indelible soul memory
they took me to Church
The thing I remember most from that was when Neil Young came on stage and she said who is the old guy 😂
We have taken her one more time since to see them.
