One Day Travel For Show

Just wondering how far some of us travel just to see a single show and return home next day? My wife and I will be travelling from Toronto area to LA for N2 and returning home next morning due to work obligations.

Last year I hopped a flight from Denver to Indy early day of show, read while I was in the air that the show was canceled, deplaned in Indy and rebooked myself home that day. I deplaned waited an hour or so and hopped back right on that very plane back to Denver. It was hellish.

Not a long flight but flew from Atlanta to NYC in 22' for the MSG 9/11 show.

I've gone all over the country from Austin and rarely stay more than one night.  Going to Sacramento Monday and will be back home Tuesday afternoon.  It'll be a shorter trip than going to Ft. Worth last year.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

In 2020 I was ready to drive 10 hours roundtrip from NYC to Baltimore but then the show (and tour) were cancelled.  Can't make Baltimore this time around unfortunately.

When traveling for single shows I've traveled without luggage or hotel reservations sleeping outside the venue and airports. Most recently Wrigley 2 2016, St.Paul 1 2023. The timing of the flights it's most important.

I’m definitely afraid of that happening but I’ve never been to LA so I’d just find something else to do.

We had tickets for Toronto and Hamilton and possibly Ottawa for that tour. At least got Toronto and Hamilton in 2022.

My longest 1 day out and back is in 1992 a friend and I drove from DC to Boston and back in just under 24 hours to see U2 at the Garden on March 17.

Flying out Thurs for the Fri. show in Portland and then taking Sat. redeye back to Newark.

I haven't done one show (plane) traveling in 20 years, but I got good seats and I'm using airline miles and hotel points.

Holding me over until Sept. EC dates.

My wife and I live in Calgary and have no issues traveling for a day to Vancouver or Seattle for shows.  It's a 90 minute flight at most.  Hell, both times I saw PJ in Missoula we drove, watched the show and came home in the AM.

Did Fresno the other year from Atlanta. Pit tickets and airline points made it doable.

I don't fly on day of show. I've had too many disappointments in life with delayed or cancelled flights, so if I have to fly I'll always fly the day before. I will drive day of show, assuming it's not a crazy drive. Because I live on an island it's almost impossible to go to a show and then come back home the same night, but I definitely have gotten in the car after a show and driven a few hours and then waited for the first ferry in the morning to get back to my home town and straight to work.

I did Toronto-LA-Toronto on a Saturday-Sunday to catch Eddie Ohana Saturday one year and not need to take a vacation day.  Did not regret it in the slightest.

    2009 Chicago 2.

Flew from Tampa morning of the show. Only brought a backpack with me.
Walked the city during the day, went to the show (got great side stage tix at 4am that morning on TM believe it or not. Had planned on trying to find an extra, was a relief to not have to worry about it). After the show, took the L back to O’Hare and slept there. Early flight back to Tampa the next morning.

One of the best days of my life!

In 2018, my wife and I decided to make the 7 hour drive to Missoula at noon on the day of the show.  We left home without tickets, but were able to buy some from other fan club members during the drive there.  We got into the stadium right as Pearl Jam was coming out on stage.  After the show, we got back in the car and drove home.
