I wouldnt say any of it sounds like back to roots, but equally I wouldnt say thats a bad thing. I dont think we'll ever get a song people collectively agree sounds like original Pearl Jam, they just evolve to a different sound and you either like it or dont.
In my opinion: Dark Matter - Has a riot act sound to the music with an early years chorus Running - The bridge has a binaural sound, and the outro has a Rearviewmirror sound to me Something Special - Dont even know, very poppy but think the vocal delivery could be fun Wreckage - To me sounds like a Gigaton song, and actually really like the sound of what I've heard

Exactly! Especially since No Code, for better or worse, just about everything on every new album has been completely different. After all these years, you'd think we were used to it LOL. I stopped trying to keep people "in" since No Code, so won't start back up again. They've lost and gained fans with each album.

If there is a next album, I hope from start to finish it includes horns, steel guitars and a banjo just to watch people melt about how Pearl Jam doesn’t sound like the early 90’s anymore. Some of the expectations around here cannot be real…..if you have been actively listening continuously from the beginning like I have.
Kudos to PJ for playing music they are the inspired to make. After all, in the end, it is a gift that they share anything with us at this point.
Music like other art comes from the soul. I think sometimes artists get more or less credit for their art than is deserved. Some of the best music was written in 15 minutes. It’s a stream of consciousness, that the artist themselves don’t even fully comprehend, sometimes until years later.
If this new music is causing you anxiety then maybe get off the forum for a while, listen to someone else that makes you feel alive. Life is way too short. Then maybe with time you can appreciate what the band is doing here. I speak from experience where I have been let down by a new piece of art created by someone I previously loved.
Of course this is my opinion and we all know what they’re like…..
I think we are in for a treat. From the reviews I have seen, I won't be surprised if this album is embraced by the mainstream and beyond our little fanbase here.

After listening to the “behind the metal door” clip, I agree. The clips are short but the music and melody is interesting to my ears. Can’t wait to hear the whole thing

I posted that as an example and not facts. I don't have any more information than anyone else.

Oddly, even though "Wreckage" is getting widespread airplay at rock, alternative and Triple-A radio, the only time I've actually heard it on the radio was when I was in Seattle-- and, appropriately, it was the first song I heard when I turned on the radio after I picked up my rental car. Welcome to Seattle!
