Why did the band forget about Grievance and Insignificance?

From 2000 and upp and till 2006, these were staples. And still appeared regularly in 09-10 (from what I remember). They were two of my favourite "rockers" from the group when showing up on the 00 and 03 boots I bought, and later had the chance to see live in 2006. I see them as, as bona fide live classics as Do the evolution and Given to Fly coming before.

Songs come and go and Evenflow remains. But I didn't think this was true for Grievance and Insignificance

I THOUGHT THEY WERE FOREVER.

Grievance, Insignificance and... (dare I add and for different reasons... Sirens (edit: and World Wide Suicide) disappearing from the setlists are just plain weird. Sounds great on Groundworks in HD. And it made me realise that I really miss them.

Not sure why but yeah I’d take these two over a lot of their other songs that are staples! I don’t need to hear BM or Evenflow give them a well deserved brake insert these two instead!

Loved hearing Insignificance in St Paul. Easily the highlight of the show for me.

Same here, insignificance, LBC, Indifference, and Black were my highlights that night. The ending of Insignificance was so good, and I was hoping for Grievance at all the other shows last year since they were busting out a lot of Binaural.

Love hearing the Binaural tracks, esp. God's Dice, Rival, and Parting Ways.  Only heard the latter once live, though

I agree with you that these songs should be played more often. I think "Grievance" and "World Wide Suicide" may be less prominent because they're so specific to the Bush era.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

The cynical in me wants to scream that’s because they don’t seem to relate to the messages these songs convey anymore. Someone mentioned WWS and same thing about that song too.

I feel like Grievance is too hard for Ed to sing now but then again Habit, STBC, and Comatose are still in rotation

I don't think increasing ticket prices to $185.00 is indicative of a radical shift of worldview by the members of Pearl Jam. The lyrics of "Dark Matter" express a similar frustration to "Grievance," but the particulars have changed. We're no longer fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that informed a song like "World Wide Suicide."* We also don't hear "Army Reserve" anymore for the same reason. It's also why we'll probably never hear "Bu$hleaguer" again. Ed probably considers Bush to be a stable genius compared to Trump. Now the lyrical themes are going to be about culture-war divisions and the fragility of our democratic system.

So many songs from Binaural-Avocado that would be great if they were played more. Severed Hand, You Are, Grievance,
Insignificance, 1/2 Full, Ghost, Big Wave, God’s Dice… I could go on and on…

    Ya it was amazing.

I meant Grievance was soundchecked but now that I think about it it was Severed Hand that was and then played in Texas.

    Grievance is amazing live.

True, the Bush years brought a lot of Bush-era-specific lyrics with them. I feel like something similar might happen to f.e. „Seven O‘ Clock“ and „Quick Escape“ in the long run…

I always go back to Grievance from live at the garden with bean girl when I need my fix

I could have sworn it was soundchecked last year, maybe it was 2022.

I think Eddie can sing Grievance better than WWS now

Denver 3rd July 2006 - I think the BEST version of Insignificance (at around 19mins). The jam at 22mins is transcendent.  Insane live.

There is some truth to this-- not the Watt part, as far as I'm aware, but definitely the Josh part. When Josh had to fill in for Matt at the 2022 shows, there were very few songs performed from after 1998, other than Gigaton songs. Josh told me when I ran into him last summer that he knows the first five albums like the back of his hand from when he was a fan during that period, but he said he really does not know the albums from Binaural through Lightning Bolt.

I've seen both two times. Grievance, interestingly enough, both times in Toronto, in 2011 and 2016, and Insignificance once in Toronto (2016)  and once in Berlin (2009). Toronto always gets great sets.

I thought the reference to actions speaking louder than words was commenting on what some people are claiming is a disconnect between what the band has said in its music and in its advocacy with a perceived greediness reflected in ticket cost and allocation. I apologize for misconstruing your post if that's not what you were getting at.
