Pearl Jam at Fenway

Greg Hill on WEEI just announced that Pearl Jam will be playing at Fenway this summer. Paraphrasing but he said “word on the street” and when questioned he said he has his “sources”. He is on a sport station but definitely has many connections in the music industry. He also wouldn’t realize he would be giving out super Pearl Jam secrets as he’s just some fifty something year old dude with a lot of money that likes music.

He's on sports radio now (for last 4 years) but before that spent nearly 30 years doing mornings on WAAF so he has more than a few music industry connections.
    This weekend we rock Portland

I said “many” not “few” so I agree.  He just could care less if he was “leaking” valuable information.

Wonder if announcement is closer than we think
  • Hillman is definitely connected and in-the-know in terms of the Boston music scene. Believe he was also at the shows in 2016 and 2018. Happy to (hopefully) have a hometown show or two!
  • I was hoping for anywhere other than Fenway. Oh well.

Sox have a home game on Weds 9/12, and then on the road until 9/20.  I am going to guess Fenway shows are Sat 9/14 & Mon 9/16.  or maybe even Sun 9/15 & Tues 9/17.  They seem to shy away from Saturday shows, to the degree it almost feels intentional?

and yes I agree PJ Fenway is a little been there done that, but I'd still take it 100% over Mansfield or Foxboro, the only other realistic places they'd play.  And since a Fenway show 99% rules out a Hartford/Gilford/Bangor/SPAC then I guess I'll see at the ball park!

Fenway would be great especially if its not over Labor Day weekend.

Travel in the spring, home shows in the fall.

I like Fenway for shows. So much easier to get in and out of if you are coming from MetroWest.

TD Garden and Mansfield are both a pain in the ass to get to, and Gillette sucks for shows.

  • they need to stop with the ballpark shows...sound is terrible

how about 5 night stand at the new MGM Theater next to fenway? seeing a band in a stadium is just...lame.

realistically do it at the garden. arena shows are 1000x better than any stadium show.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Fenway is always reserved seating.

Correct. At least last time around, there was no GA. I’m assuming it’ll be the same thing this time.
  • When was the last time they played somewhere as big as Gillette in the US?

I can't imagine them playing anywhere besides the Garden, Fenway or Mansfield (& I would hope for either of the first two over the last one)

  • Exciting that they are coming back to MA but was really hoping for an arena show (is there still hope for CT?).  Someone here recently said that the 2018 shows were a little underwhelming and I kinda of agree. I think in the moment it was great. But the expectations were super high following the 2016 shows and they didn't really live up to it. Probably my fault. I know coming on stage much later than expected seemed to be some of the cause. For me at least. Also being labor day weekend.

Anyways, would love to get a leak of the dates so we can jump on some lodging if necessary.  And my kids will be off to college so no worries about scheduling at least lol.

Both times at Fenway PJ has done all reserved seating. But many other acts have had GA at Fenway, so not sure why PJ hasn't (but not complaining, in fact just the opposite as I had 4th row for both shows in 2016 and 5th row for both in 2018).

if going to do stadiums again hope they are longer than 2 hours and 15 minutes unless they bring in a star attraction opener.

Ill go to Fenway a 5th and 6th time of course, but PLEASE don't play the same songs both night, were all there both nights.
  • Yes!! Finally can see PJ for the first time!

Amen. Draw the Line and Taillights Fade were fine once. It was overkill playing them again on N2 in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Booked a hotel. It’s insane how expensive hotels are right now. And then they have the added resort or hotel fees hidden on top of the already crazy prices.

I am not too excited to go back to Fenway but with airfare prices being insane now as well this is a no brainer being able to drive.

Oh ya and $65 a night for parking. Awesome

Draw The Line only happened twice because Tom Hamilton showed up unexpectedly. Agreed on Taillights Fade, though. That was kinda weird.

Disagree...it was the perfect opportunity and it's not like everyone that was at night 1 was at night 2. There were only 5 repeats on night 2.
