That is simply insane, to me. I guess if you have that kind of money to drop on a poster, good on ya.
Yes it is, especially considering the Foiled Benaroya Hall Poster with Eddie's Signature (Edition size of 10) that I purchased last night was much cheaper.  Ill take Ed's sig over the artist any day. Sure some of the poster are nice but not 2k nice. I wouldn't trade my Ed signed Benny poster for any of them straight up.  The FOMO must have been intense with those ones... i only wonder how long its going to take for buyers remorse to kick in.  Heck i even had some myself after dropping a crap ton on merchandise the last 2 nights but at least the proceeds went to a good cause

I’ve been wanting the 98 Phx poster for years. My first show. I’m guessing some of the big buys today were for similar reasons.

The '98's are tough.  They didn't make many, the frenzy didn't exist back then.  People didn't even know they'd end up being valuable.  So many of them got thumbtacked to people's walls.

There's so few of them, that they don't come up often.   It's either pay a bunch for one, or don't ever get one.

I wouldn't pay $2000 for a poster, but at the same time I couldn't bring my self to pay $500 usd for a signed one last night.    I think the most I paid for a poster was a Seattle '98 that I bought over 10 years ago for $420usd which included shipping and it was framed.  It was the last one I needed of the shows I went too.  I guess some people really want those posters they missed out back in the day.  I bought the Seattle '98 because that concert was a last minute decision, and we road tripped and got there 5 mins before PJ started.  Posters were sold out that close to showtime.

    Glad I did though...

buy yah.. trying to get those '98s.. not easy.  I suppose it depends how much $$ someone has and how nostalgic they feel for the poster.

I still cant believe why they didnt sell these posters true the 10club, with the chance for people who live outside the US or Canada to buy these.
Its a big (yeah how do you call it) against those people who doesnt live in the US/Canada

Interesting to see the market isnt as dead as people would have you believe. Seems Ames got their pricing spot on. Nothing sold too quick but everything sold. They really nailed that sweet spot.
  • Looks like a couple things still available - Santa Barbara, Beneroya, and Ohana sparkle. But there certainly is a thriving market for these still. Looking forward to spring/summer if it continues that long.

For people that have been hunting these old posters down for years now, it is expensive, but I get paying the price directly from the artist, for peace of mind.  There is a lot of suspicion out there now due to fake prints that have come up from time to time - for example the 98 Hartford, has been reprinted.  If you are buying from eBay or from other second hand sites, if you do not know exactly what you are looking for or trust the seller, you could get taken advantage of.  I guess the question becomes would you pay $1,800 for a Dublin that you know is legit coming directly from the artist or take the risk and pay $1,200 for the same print and come to find it is a fake?  If I had the money, I would spend the extra $600 for peace of mind - just my thoughts.

I knowingly bought a reprint of Hartford ‘98 off eBay many years ago…. Paid < $30 for it… the frame cost probably 3x that, but it’s good enough and I didn’t drop 4 figures on it. I can only imagine what this will go for if Ames has it in the archive.

I had a bootleg Kong made for myself.  No way I'm dropping big cheese on a real one. Donkey Kong is my favorite game and King Kong is one of my favorite movies so I had to have it one way or another.

I have the same one - beautiful print - absolutely love it.  I paid $85 years ago understanding it was a reprint as well and yes - I think the framing was double the price.

Does anyone know what the poster runs were for the 98 tour? Was it in the hundreds or the thousands all I know as I got my 98 Sacramento which I wish I had bought the shell I don’t even know if they sold out at the show for 700 bucks in 2006 and they’re obviously worth more now there’s just not a lot of them out there in good shape. I think a lot of people just like somebody said put them on the board they got destroyed whatever by the early 2000s the collecting was going pretty strong so I think anyone who knew anything was trying to store them more carefully but yeah, nowadays with prices up at two 3000 for a poster I don’t even know how I would tell if it was a real or fake

Yeah, yesterday I bought the signed Ames v PJ vol 2 because it has Kong on it. May be my only Kong and that’s ok.

I think it was in the hundreds.  I think the Missoula poster I have is a run of 300.   Probably similar for Vancouver.  Not sure if Seattle had more printed due to being two shows.

The combination of being prefrenzy, means limited copies, and only so many survived.   I'm so glad I tracked down Seattle and Vancouver posters about 10 to 15 years ago before they got as bad as they are now.    Still kick myself for both.  I think when we went to the 2000 and 2001 Seattle PJ shows there was an art store selling the '98 framed for $150.. but I was a broke university student, so didn't bother.   At the Vancouver show, I was like, this ones smaller than my Missoula poster I don't think it's worth $30 (or whatever the price was).. only to get fomo years later and track one down.
