Assuming you're American, that's very easy for you to say. I'm thinking you might not think that if you lived in Gaza or Tehran or Kyiv Tel Aviv.

Nope, you're right, T, that little skirmish didn't go anywhere.

Oh, and seanwon, as you probably also already know, thousands of guys and their buddies weren't killed or maimed or suffered with PTSD or eventually took their lives as a result of what they went through over in Iraq.  Hell no, of course none of that stuff happened.  "It never does."

Seeing COOTWH, JD Byryder, Lil Marco Rube and Pig Seth at the podium while COOTWH blathered on about bombing Iran, I couldn’t help but think of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but then I saw Bibi and his taint licking and thought somehow the Fifth Horseman had peeled off. Quick, someone invite him to the White House for a victory gallop.

I heard repeatedly during the campaign last year that, when Trump was president, "there were no wars." This was hilariously false. Aside from the fact that there were several wars being fought around the world when Trump was president, the United States was at war in Afghanistan for the entire length of Trump's first term.

So they'll probably just claim this isn't a war.

Once again, as they have done for Democratic and Republican presidents alike for the past eighty years, Congress has completely abdicated its responsibility to declare war.

As much as I wished staying uninvolved to be one campaign “promise” he kept, the potus does get 90 days without congress, and I doubt he keeps it up that long, unless Iran attacks American soil. In that case getting a vote would be plausible. Let’s hope it’s over by then.

for those getting angry at this, for good cause, this was all set in motion by Oct 7th, and enabled by Russia being tied up in Ukraine. And by trumps dumb decision to tear up the Iran nuclear treaty

it was set in motion by israel's constant inability to solve its own problems. it can punch but when it gets punched back it runs to it's friends and gets them involved. we give them billions in weapons per year. that is enough.

From what I’ve read this morning, the Saudi’s have a pipeline so it won’t be as impactful as it maybe would have been in decades past.

For decades, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called the Iranian nuclear enterprise intolerable, both for Israel and for the world. “In many ways, Netanyahu is a flagrantly duplicitous politician; there is little he won’t say or do to maintain his coalition and his power,” David Remnick writes. “But he is right in this.” A nuclear-armed Iran would threaten Israel (which has had nuclear weapons for decades) and could provoke Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, and others to pursue such a weapon, too. While the Israeli government absorbed international condemnation for its excesses and crimes in Gaza, its forces have defeated proxy militias and regimes throughout the region that have been bankrolled by Iran.

This was the moment of weakness in Tehran that Netanyahu had been waiting for. In the past two weeks, Israel has eliminated the uppermost ranks of Iran’s military and intelligence leadership and of its nuclear scientists. But it did not take long for Netanyahu’s rhetoric and tactics to shift—from a focus on the attacks against military and nuclear sites to broader, more perilous ambitions. Netanyahu has hinted that he wants Donald Trump to dispatch American bombers. To avoid another conflict in the Middle East, “the American President will have to temper his worst impulses for a ‘quick win’ and negotiate,” David Remnick writes. But Trump is hardly a model of discernment. Read more: https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/P131G8

dude is lawless. does anybody think trump is going to think twice about this rhetoric? he can't be impeached and can't be held accountable so he is going to do whatever he wants.

Well, if you're going to attack someone, it makes sense to lull them into a false sense of security. Before D-Day, we went to great lengths and expense to fool the Germans into thinking the attack would come at a different time in a different place.

They haven't declared war since 1942, but we've had Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Panama, Grenada, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iraq again, Libya, Syria and now this. If Congress actually asserted itself, we would have had far fewer military adventures.

I think you have this backwards. It's Israel that is punching back, and the groups it punches back against after their constant incursions into Israel, lobbing missiles and ultimately with the heinous attack on October 7, are all Iranian proxies. Hamas and Hezbollah couldn't survive without their "friend" Iran.

We had a deal to allow them to enrich for peaceful use in exchange for an agreement not to pursue nuclear weapons. It was in our interest and in the interest of the world to make this tradeoff. Israel never trusted Iran to abide by the agreement, and between the Republicans' reflexive support of Israel and the fact that they could never admit that anything Obama did was worthwhile, it was inevitable that Trump  would abandon it, and he did.

In a matter of weeks, maybe days, the GOP has done a 180 on pro/anti war.

I think you have this backwards. It's Israel that is punching back, and the groups it punches back against after their constant incursions into Israel, lobbing missiles and ultimately with the heinous attack on October 7, are all Iranian proxies. Hamas and Hezbollah couldn't survive without their "friend" Iran.
i think i know exactly what i am talking about. you have it backwards. as stated a thousand times, 10/7 was a result of illegal settlements and the fact that israel is breaking international law by expanding them. israel is creating it's own problems, getting attacked, then striking with an extremely heavy hand, then reaching out to allies for money, weapons, and now boots on the ground military support and help with defense/offense.
