  • Silly question, but I have to ask.
I purchased the Chicago 9/5 (cartoon) Ames poster here, I think on Oct. 9th or 10th.

    Question being
Did the 9/7 Chicago poster(cartoon) Ames ever get sold here?
    Did I completely miss this?
Im guessing it did, but I never saw the post with the sale, and when I
check the history of poster sales, I still cant find it.
    Take me piece by piece.....

    mattryan

    Today is my Mom's birthday.

I thought I would shine a brighter light on this poster in lieu of today because this poster is for her.

My mom is the biggest Pearl Jam fan I know.

She's flown around the world to see them, lives and breathes them and well - she raised me; so that meant I did too. When the ever kind @mrtsurt and I met at Designer Con last year, I expressed to him the sentiment that Pearl Jam held to my mom and I.

Shortly thereafter, he reached out with the chance to do a poster for them. I kept it a secret from my mom and came up with a concept inspired by the iconic PJ song and her favorite, “Black". A song played more times in our house than any other.

I received quite an overwhelming amount of moving messages from PJ fans saying what this art meant to them - what their interpretation was. One in particular brought me to tears.

For me, the art in relation to the song is about having to let something go, knowing you can't go with it and feeling forever stuck in that "without" place. But that feeling isnt everlasting.

The back of the print, for those who dont know, PJ has reserved for the artist to do a unique piece of art that’s printed on every poster. I chose to draw my moms tool box from her old job at a packaging facility from when I was younger. Inside the lid of the real life tool box was in fact a picture of me, my sister...and @eddievedder. My mom was ecstatic when she saw the poster the same time everyone else saw it, earlier this year.

However, thats not even the best part.

@mrtsurt went out of his way to reach out to the band and have them all sign a copy of the poster to my mom and sent it out to her, directly. My mom video called me and could barely formulate a sentence through the very happy tears.

Don’t know if I could top this one, Ma! ❤️

    Happy Birthday @colleentobin13 - LYF <3

And thank you to the ever generous and ever kind @mrtsurt - I am forever indebted to you.
And Thank you @PearlJam, for just...everything.

    M.

Man… these guys won awards for their posters?!? Somebody let Jess Johnson know it might have been worth it after all.

Yeah it's weird with all the astute art criticism I read on here when posters drop I totally would've expected it to align with the standard bearers of awarding design excellence
