Recommend a Grunge Documentary For Me To Watch

LukinFanLukinFan Posts: 29,050
Yesterday, I watched Malfunkshun: The Andy Wood Story for the first time. I had no idea it even existed.

What else have I missed? Recommend a grunge doc for me to watch. It doesn’t have to be related to Pearl Jam.

Thanks!

    Hype!
Just finished Hype. Great doc. I learned a lot, and there’s a ton of great footage in it. For the first half of the doc I’m thinking, how did they get such great footage from so long ago? And then I saw it was originally released in 1996. Makes sense. Thanks again!

(you can watch it for free on Prime if anyone else wants to see it)

1991: The Year Punk Broke is one of my favourites, part concert film and part doc.

This was the first one that came to mind for me too.

I liked “I’m Now: The Story of Mudhoney” as well, because they’re linked to just about everyone else.

I really enjoyed 1991… I found it on YouTube. Again, I learned a ton and there was a lot of great live footage in it. Thanks again!

I remember Vedder playing a Gas Huffer song and having Joey Ramone introduce it on a Monkey Wrench Radio bit after one of the shows.

I LOVED when they did that!  Bring that energy back!

Santos L Halper might have some street knowledge about Coffin Break.

  • You probably are aware of this book, but as a companion to Hype! I would strongly suggest "Everyone Loves our Town". I would agree with the folks who recommended The Year Punk Broke - fantastic live footage of Dinosaur, Sonic Youth and of course some funny backstage stuff. Dave Grohl was really into the backstage catering options.
