Never wanted to be doing this. My brother Keith was diagnosed with end stage renal disease about 5 years ago. He was immediately on dialysis for 5 hours 3x/week. He had been putting up the good fight and we had been trying to do many things together as often as we could though we lived 4 hours apart.
This February he ended up in the hospital with a blood infection…he fought it. Went to physical rehab and ended up in the ICU due ti internal bleeding. He almost died. When I visited him at first he could barely talk and I had to feed him. He fought it.

He got out an back into physical rehab, a month in ICU and he couldn’t stand or walk. He was making progress…but then a setback. He was back in the hospital and I went him to see him. Missed him as they transferred him to Cleveland clinic due to complications of his situation. Made it to cleveland clinic and was waiting in his room (they said they took him for dialysis)…doctor came in saying they had to take him right to ICU. Finally after a long day I got to see him, my mother got to kiss him. It seemed like he was stable and they had time ti figure things out. I told him I loved him (he was only somewhat responsive…he did open his eyes when he heard my voice when I came in the room. I have him a fist bump and told him I’d see him later. We left. I never got to see him again as his body gave out that evening just before midnight. This was on June 10, 2023. He was 51.
We were very different people but shared a love of music. He loved the 80’s and I loved the 90’s. He took me to my very first concert…AC/DC in Detroit in 1990 I think. We did appreciate each others music though. I took him to PJ auburn Hills 2006…Charlottesville in 2013, wrigley 2 2016, vedder solo at Bourbon and beyond in 2017 I think. And thankfully I took him to see his favorite band, Duran Duran, just last summer. We had never seen them together though he had seen them plenty. So many great memories. He was not well enough to make it to Bourbon and beyond in Louisville to see PJ last summer…which was a bummer as he was also a huge Neil Finn fan and would have loved the collab.
His original favorite PJ don’t was Given to Fly. After some tough issues in life he told me “I am Mine” was his favorite. He continued to talk to me about it after his diagnosis as well.

To be honest every song I listen to now makes me think of him. I’ll be at both St Paul’s with my daughter and I am really hoping I can keep it fun…but the emotion will be strong.
sorry for the long story, but it’s nice to have a safe place to share. I’d really love to hear I Am Mine for my brother Keith. And if not, like I said, most other songs make me think of him anyhow.

Tell your loved ones how much they mean to your. Life is hard and way too short.

Good luck with the request. Sounds like your brother was a real fighter. Wishing you and your daughter the best experience at the shows.0

So sorry to hear about your loss. There’s nothing harder than losing a loved one. I hope they play I am mine in dedication to your brother.0

I so sorry Cincy... glad you guys had the time you did together, but that still won't replace the time you had taken away.
Hope we hear I Am Mine in St Paul for you & your brother.0 -
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. In 2018 I lost both my mother and my sister. Seattle night 2 Home Show was the best day of my whole year. Seriously.
I had taken so much family time off, that I could only get off work for the one show.
Whether they play your song or not, it will be a good experience for you to be there, especially with your daughter. I think it will provide relief, regardless of what your emotional reactions are.0 -
I am very sorry for your loss. I am sure this is such a difficult time for you and your family. I hope you get your song at St. Paul, and it brings you happy memories of your brother.

So sorry to hear Cincy. sounds like a great and strong dude. I Am Mine would be awesome. I'll be there (so far I'm still going to both as well).
