Citizens of states elect their representatives to office by either voting or not voting, as the case may be. Citizens of both Tejas and Flo Rida via the majorities that have voted have elected their representatives and the percentage of non-voters are either okay with the results or don’t seem to give a fuck that nazi tinged authoritarianism is on the march. Thus, both states, by about 2/3 to 1/3, maybe 3/4 to 1/4, have populations that I don’t want anything to do with. If I were you, and I’m not, and you are yours, I’d reconsider moving to Tejas but regardless, I wish you the best. ‘Murica is fucked after 8 million more voted for POOTWH after 4 years of knowing what we knew and that is the other major political party now. I won’t live long enough to see it swing back to “reasonableness.”

I'm not going to attack you. There is no point and that is not how I operate. You and I probably agree on a lot of things, but we definitely disagree here & that's ok. By your rationale, every state is "tainted" & we are all fucked.

I appreciate your concern about where we move, but that is none of your concern at all. We are not moving there with blinders on about what is going on in the state, not at all. We also didn't have blinders on when we moved to Oregon or Missouri, both of which have major cultural, political & societal flaws. I think that's the difference between you and I on this issue, I can see through the flaws and actually see the good things that any city or state can provide.

If we move, I plan on being active there just like I am here and like I was in Oregon. I'm not going to subscribe to the doom and gloom narrative, but rather try to make things better.

I think that making sweeping accusations and statements about an entire population (whether city, state or national) is a terrible way to view the world - and a dangerous one.

Like you, I’ve lived in multiple states with the difference being that when bad shit happened, they did or do the right thing. And when their elected representatives turn out to be scum, they vote them out of office. These states also try to do what is right by the majority of their citizens and not the privileged few. I respect your opinion and we have differing views. That’s okay.

I wouldn't get too upset about the general description of TX and FL being red. I'm in red meat IN and I don't take generalizations like that personally.

It's an electoral college thing. There are enough red meat magats in some states to taint the whole lot of us.

mo used to be blue. unfortunately i do not ever see it going back with the way the districts are here.

Just wanted to say - I love the way you handled this. I wish we could all communicate so eloquently and reasonably, and will try to learn from this example

With respect to Texas, my understanding is that there are pockets of liberalism that would probably vote in line with H2TM almost 100% of the time. That said, being the minority, they do not have the power to influence the state's government. Their lives are harder as a byproduct of their decision, and I also don't think it's fair to write off the state - it's not a 'basket of deplorables' situation.

I'm actually more concerned about the mental acuity of Diane Feinstein. We can do better than continuing to put people with declining health in office (Trump, Biden, Grassley, McConnell, etc.).

More like 86 those in decline.

Neither do I, unfortunately. My sister has lived KC for a long time and she & I were talking about how everything has completely changed since she moved here for college & is sad to see what KC (and MO) has become.
