"You" (by Taylor) and "U" (by Pearl Jam).
Which Pearl Jam also changed to You in streaming platforms
    operative word is similar:

So for all of you closet Swifties and PJ fans, can we figure out how many Taylor Swift and PJ songs have the same or similar titles?

Anyone who thinks that Taylor Swift only appeals to girls and young women is really not paying attention. You don't achieve the level of commercial and critical acclaim she has without having a very broad appeal. I am a grown man from Generation X with no children, and I am a fan of her music and a huge admirer of her talent as a Hall-of-Fame songwriter, fine musician, and an increasingly polished singer. I came to my appreciation of her on my own, not because of the influence of a girlfriend/wife/daughter.

Let me put it a different way. Pearl Jam is my favorite band. (Duh.) I have seen the band live 70 times, and I have been a huge fan of Pearl Jam's entire body of work from 1991 to the present. I absolutely love Gigaton and have played it to death. But it was not the best album of 2020 in my opinion. That was Folklore. If you have not given this album the time of day because you think it's music for tweens and teens, you are missing out.

I gather speed from you fucking with me.

    3 daughters (17, 14, 10) all major Swifties.
My wife and I took them to the 2018 Reputation show in Arlington (the one on Netflix) and we just took them again to the Eras show in March.  We lucked out getting affordable tix because everything else was insane expensive.
I’ve had a blast watching them following the set lists.  Her shows are massive productions so everyone knows it’s the same every night except for 2 surprise songs.  Everyone in my house stops down to watch when it’s time for the surprise songs and I swear it’s a very similar vibe that we all have following pjs sets, except more screaming.  Very fun, and I’m totally sucked in too, I’m a proud swiftie dad.  I’ve come to appreciate a lot about her music, her journey, her development as an artist, her skills, her messages.  I’m glad they get to grow up with her in the same way I’m glad I got to grow with PJ.

    And I don't understand that.

It's the same damn setlist every night. But that's what you get when there's rehearsed stuff. Hey, if they wanna go apeshit factacta over two songs, more power to them.

Now just imagine if those "surprise songs" were 95% of the setlist. Enter the Dead, Pearl Jam and very few others.

...rant over, but then again, I've never liked pop.

Nailing the performance and connecting with the crowd is the same whether your plying a different setlist every night or the same one. You land it you land it.

Commendable but it's not going to make-or-break the overall enjoyment or respect an artist deserves.

Having a well rehearsed, well-produced 44 song set that goes off without a hitch in front of 70,000 is also commendable.

Pulling a random audit of pearl jam's last tour, it took 3 consecutive shows to get to reach or break 44 songs at 51 unique songs.

Not sure if you saw it but Taylor had a PJ at Wrigley moment in Nashville on Sunday Night. Because of wicked storms didn't come on until after 10 pm and played until 1:30 am and was pouring by the end of the show.  And like PJ looked like no one left and waited it out.  Gotta be careful with those outdoor shows.

Yeah, outdoor shoes can be wild.  I remember a certain show in Indio in 1993 where, dare I say it, people starting throwing their shoes and sneakers at the band!  The lead singer even picked up a shoe and said, "MMMMM, your dirt....." well you get the drift.

Ed at the T.S. show in Seattle tonight.
  • I saw that she was in Seattle tonight and I had an epiphany that he might be there with his daughter.  The internet will blow up if they do a duet together, perhaps of each other's version of Better Man.

We listen to a lot of Taylor in my car, because she’s one artist that my whole family can agree on.

Well, that’s not entirely true - my son often protests. But I’m pretty sure he likes the songs - it’s just that admitting that he likes Taylor Swift would threaten a 9-year-old boy’s sense of his own masculinity.

    Anyway, carry on.

just tell him masculinity has nothing to do with it. A jam is a jam and she writes dozens of them.

From PJ? Yup. From Taylor? Well her fans are loving the Taylor's Version albums. Great business decision from her and she has the fans that will insist on the new versions being played on the radio. Gutsy. I'm sure Tom Petty would have found a conversation with her on that subject fascinating.

Wish the other big bands would have backed PJ up in the Ticketmaster debacle. Would have been great if someone with her clout had openly joined forces with PJ and testified next to them at the antitrust hearing.

From Pearl Jam of course. It was pretty cool seeing young Taylor Swift fans waiting in line early in the morning on RSD for her vinyl release. Of all my years attending RSD events, I've never so many kids obsessed on purchasing .. a vinyl record.

Taylor Swift was four-and-a-half years old in the summer of 1994, but she's so consistently excellent at everything that I have no doubt that she would have been an effective advocate before that subcommittee even as a child. It's really too bad Pearl Jam didn't reach out to her at the time.

I think the only stadiums that Pearl Jam can fill in 2023 are smaller stadiums in a specific handful of cities, like Wrigley in Chicago, Fenway in Boston, Citi Field in New York, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and Safeco Field in Seattle. I think Pearl Jam would struggle to fill similarly-sized stadiums in most other cities, and definitely would struggle to fill the stadiums where the Bears/Jets/Giants/Patriots/Eagles play, or a SoFi in Los Angeles or Levi's in Santa Clara.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.
