    I remember the show being considered controversial and shocking at the time. The stuff that is out there now makes it look like Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood in comparison.

    There was a rumor that if you went on his show that you had to sign a petition that you could never run for public office.  I laughed at that and thought it was true.

    The Jerry Springer show was great in the period of time where it went from topics of interest and was transitioning into the absurd.  I'd say about 1997?  It was still kind of trying to be real and grounded.  Fights were real.  After a year or so, the show just turned into a caricature of itself and was unwatchable.  Maury took over as the most compelling guilty pleasure daytime television talk show

    I was in Highschool still when the fighting started so say early 90's.
