In recent years, “Dixie” has been banned by a number of institutions because of its history.

This country was relatively older when it handily elected Barack Obama President twice
"Handily" is only accurate relative to the closeness of recent elections. Obama got 52.9 and 51.1 percent of the votes cast in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, respectively.

(Point being that even a candidate like Obama, who brought millions of first-time voters into the mix and who had a broad-enough appeal to win Indiana and North Carolina as a Democrat, was only able to squeak out a slight majority in the popular vote. That's how divided and polarized we have been since 2000.)

on second thought, at this point it is probably one of the only songs he CAN play at his rallies.

It was not the first time Hinchcliffe had used the Puerto Rico line — he practiced it at The Stand comedy club in New York City, where he made a surprise appearance Saturday night, according to an NBC News producer and three other people who happened to be in the audience.

The joke did not draw laughs, just a handful of awkward chuckles. Hinchcliffe told the audience that he would be performing at the Madison Square Garden rally the next day and said multiple times during his routine that he would get a better reaction "tomorrow at the rally."

Too bad you were not there to help out laughing along with the racism you defend @lindamarie73

Would luv to have been there cupcake…
I fail to see a world where someone who is not a racist would want to sit and laugh along with racism.

No, it didn't sound funny as it was written. However, did you watch the Jon Stewart video? He includes a clip from the Tom Brady roast that should allow you to extend your moral crusade by at least another day.

Yes I have seen it. And I don't think his comparison of Beyonce singing or not singing and having someone having to be racist is all that clever.

Neither do I understand why you see racism as an integral part of the art of "roasting". Or comedy for that matter. Didn't Carlin elegantly speak about comedy and punching up, not punching down and denigrate people?

I imagine that you can have Beyonce speak or sing. And i imagine you can have a "roast comic" come in, and be clever and edgy but not be racist.

Maybe you and Stewart disagree. Maybe you need that racism.

setting and context help, no? at a roast the shit talk is directly at specific individuals,  most fellow comedians. its expected.

at a campaign rally? not so much. approved by staff and uploaded to prompters....

Let's be real. The people in the room didn't laugh at the Puerto Rico "joke" either. It wasn't funny. And the guy isn't "cancelled" - he's playing to fucking Madison Square Garden for one of the major party presidential nominees. Gimme a break.

Not surprisingly, Jon Stewart does a great job summing up the Tony Hinchcliffe ordeal

Did you laugh at the watermelon joke?
I didn't actually see any of his MSG stuff. Just the quotes.
Did you chuckle to yourself at the watermelon-quote?
No, it didn't sound funny as it was written. However, did you watch the Jon Stewart video? He includes a clip from the Tom Brady roast that should allow you to extend your moral crusade by at least another day.

Yes, completely agree with you. I have no clue why the campaign would book him to do a roast set and I have no clue why he would deliver a roast set at a campaign rally.

Of all the swingy voter groups to insult with 9 days to go when you're trying to win Pennsylvania...

Do they know Puerto Ricans are all American citizens? LIke, as soon as they're born. It's uncanny Kamala delivered her economic plan for PR on the same day.

His throwaway Beyonce joke at the end is your focus? I was talking about the roast clip. Did you see all those brilliant people on stage laughing together and having a great time? A beautiful pastiche of our great multicultural society? It's possible to find happiness, my friend. It may seem impossible but it is possible.
