Sure, and if you believe this, I’ve got some emails and a laptop to sell you. Kind of like denying knowledge of FEMA camps made those real.

Trump seeks to distance himself from pro-Trump Project 2025

    CNN —

Former President Donald Trump on Friday sought to distance himself from a closely aligned conservative group’s plans to radically reshape the federal government and American life should the former president win a second term.

In a post to his social media site, Trump claimed, “I know nothing about Project 2025,” the name given to a playbook crafted by the Heritage Foundation to fill the executive branch with thousands of Trump loyalists and reorient its many agencies’ missions around conservative ideals.

“I have no idea who is behind it,” Trump continued on Truth Social. “I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

The post comes days after the president of the Heritage Foundation, Kevin Roberts, drew widespread backlash from Democrats for saying in an interview that the country was “in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.”

Project 2025 — widely viewed by conservatives as a blueprint for Trump’s second term transition — is run by several former Trump administration officials and includes many policy priorities that are aligned with those of the former president, especially as they relate to cracking down on immigration and purging the federal bureaucracy by making it easier to dismiss civil servants and career officials.

But it also includes controversial proposals Trump has not discussed, including banning pornographyreversing federal approval of the abortion pill mifepristone, excluding the morning-after pill and men’s contraceptives from coverage mandated under the Affordable Care Act, and making it harder for transgender adults to transition.

Among the chief objectives of Project 2025, its authors wrote, is: “Restore the family as the centerpiece of American life and protect our children.”

Trump’s campaign has sought for months to make clear that Project 2025 is not its official policy platform amid an intensifying effort by President Joe Biden and Democrats to tie Trump to its more controversial policies.

Yet those efforts are complicated by Trump’s extremely close relationship with many of the people who launched Project 2025 or helped contribute to it. Paul Dans, the head of Project 2025, was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management during the Trump administration, and the group’s roadmap for the next administration includes contributions from others who have worked for the former president, including his former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, former acting Deputy Homeland Security Secretary Ken Cuccinelli and former deputy chief of staff Rick Dearborn. John McEntee, Trump’s former director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office and one of his closest aides while in office, is also a senior adviser for the project.

Trump himself told a gathering of religious broadcasters in February that Roberts was “doing an unbelievable job” and “bringing (Heritage) back to levels never seen.”

The remarks came at a Nashville conference shortly after Roberts and Dans both addressed the same crowd. Dans shared with the audience it was his intention to serve in a second Trump administration should the former president win in November. Speaking before Trump about Project 2025 that night, Roberts said, “We want no credit” for the groundwork it is laying, and instead wanted “President Trump and his administration to take credit for that.”

The group has long stated its transition project is a template they hope will be adopted by the next Republican president, something a Project 2025 spokeswoman reiterated in a statement to CNN.

“As we’ve been saying for more than two years now, Project 2025 does not speak for any candidate or campaign. We are a coalition of more than 110 conservative groups advocating policy and personnel recommendations for the next conservative president. But it is ultimately up to that president, who we believe will be President Trump, to decide which recommendations to implement,” the statement reads.

A senior Trump campaign adviser told CNN that Trump’s post disavowing the group stemmed from a series of factors, most notably the Biden campaign’s recent messaging campaign tying Trump to the project.

Project 2025 has long frustrated Trump and his top advisers, who have been annoyed with the amount of coverage its policy platforms have received and the perception that the group is working in tandem with the campaign — despite Project 2025 partnering with a series of top Trump allies.

The group’s partners include several leading conservative groups with close ties to Trump’s campaign, including those who have been tapped by Trump’s advisers to serve as part of their 2024 ground game strategy in key battleground states, such as Turning Points USA.

Other high-profile organizations partnered with Project 2025 include the Center for Renewing America, run by Trump’s former director of the Office of Management and Budget, Russ Vought, who is viewed by many in Trump’s orbit as a likely contender for another Cabinet position in a second administration and is helping to lead the GOP platform committee ahead of the Republican National Convention later this month. The Conservative Partnership Institute, run in part by Trump’s former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and former Sen. Jim Demint, and America Legal First, founded by his immigration adviser Stephen Miller, are also partners.

The Biden campaign on Friday quickly dismissed Trump’s attempts to keep Project 2025 at arm’s length.

“Project 2025 is the extreme policy and personnel playbook for Trump’s second term that should scare the hell out of the American people,” Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa said in a statement. “Project 2025 staff and leadership routinely tout their connections to Trump’s team, and are the same people leading the RNC policy platform and Trump’s debate prep, campaign, and inner circle.”

The Trump campaign has previously pushed back on reports about plans Trump’s allies are looking to implement if Trump wins reelection. Trump’s campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita issued a statement in November arguing that “reports about personnel and policies that are specific to a second Trump Administration are purely speculative and theoretical” and that no outside groups have the authority to speak on behalf of Trump or the campaign.

LaCivita doubled down further on Friday, tweeting: “Poke the Bear you are going to be bit” while sharing an article titled: “Trump torches Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025.”

Lerx likely doesn't but Trump does. That is why his sentencing is pushed back a couple months.

Supreme court has muddied up the waters.

Actually…Hope Hicks had a key White House job and her testimony also was key for the prosecution. Good chance a federal court throws out the verdict based on that alone.

The fact that NY immediately delayed sentencing two months speaks loudly here.

That is the point, MIck. Due to the supremes muddying up the waters, basic shit (or shit that should be, or used to be basic) will now be argued to death, with a non zero % chance of working.

A lot FEMA camps. From Letter From An American.

On July 2, Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts assured Trump ally Steve Bannon’s followers that they are winning in what he called “the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be.” In March, Roberts told former Trump administration official and now right-wing media figure Sebastian Gorka about Project 2025: “There are parts of the plan that we will not share with the Left: the executive orders, the rules and regulations. Just like a good football team we don’t want to tip off our playbook to the Left.”

This morning, although Roberts has described Project 2025 as “institutionalizing Trumpism,” Trump’s social media feed tried to distance the former president from Project 2025. “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it,” the post read. Despite this disavowal of any knowledge of the project, it continued: “I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

In what appeared to be a coordinated statement, the directors of Project 2025 wrote on social media less than two hours later that they “do not speak for any candidate.”

Aside from the fact that “[a]nything they do, I wish them luck,” sounds much like the signaling Trump did to the Proud Boys when he told them to “stand back and stand by,” Trump’s assertion and Project 2025’s response can’t possibly erase the many and deep ties of the Trump camp to Project 2025. Juliet Jeske of Decoding Fox News noted that Trump’s name shows up on more than 190 pages of the Project 2025 playbook.

Rebekah Mercer, who sits on the board of the Heritage Foundation, was one of Trump’s top donors in 2016; her family founded and operated Cambridge Analytica, the company that misused the data of millions of Facebook users to push pro-Trump and anti-Clinton material in 2016. Trump’s national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, has appeared in a Project 2025 video. Trump’s own super PAC has been running ads promoting Project 2025, calling it “Trump’s Project 2025,” and many of its policies—killing the Department of Education, erasing the separation of church and state, ending renewable energy programs and ramping up use of fossil fuels, deporting immigrants—are also Trump’s.

Project 2025’s director, Paul Dans, as well as both of its associate directors, Spencer Chretien and Troup Hemenway, were in charge of personnel in Trump’s White House, and the theme of Project 2025 is that “people are policy,” by which they mean that hand-picked loyalists must replace civil servants. Trump’s former body man John McEntee, who reentered the White House as a senior advisor after having to leave because he failed a background check, was in charge of hiring in the last months of the Trump White House; he helped to draft Project 2025. Key Trump ally Russell Vought wrote the section of Project 2025 that called for an authoritarian leader; he is also on the platform committee of the Republican National Convention.

Slight correction ...the lower courts will offer an initial opinion and the six conservative justices will offer final opinion

The hope hicks testimony is in serious jeopardy, and there may be other acts that they can tie to his presidency as an official act,in their biased view of reality

Edit,..  the opinion does say a lot. That one sentence from Roberts saying that a president can speak with anyone in the government alleging fraudulent acts of others is damning,or conspire to commit a fraud

the president can conspire to commit fraud or conspire to falsely accuse others of committing a crime and there is nothing anyone could do about that right now

Former Trump Staffer Shares Texts Revealing Secret Payoffs

A new court filing alleges that Donald Trump’s campaign has paid to bury a number of lawsuits over sexual harassment and discrimination.

A.J. Delgado, a former staffer on Trump’s 2016 campaign, shared bombshell texts alleging that the campaign “settled multiple” gender discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuits. The texts, reportedly between Delgado and former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis, came to light in new filings Delgado made as part of her ongoing discrimination lawsuit.

“Jenna, [between] us, do you know of anyone who complained of gender discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, or sexual harassment, in the 2020 campaign? Do you know if the 2020 campaign settled any lawsuits regarding such?” texts allegedly from Delgado ask. “Yes. Off record—Boris. The campaign settled multiple suits,” a text reply allegedly from Ellis reads. “Have your investigator subpoena Michael Glassner,” the texts advise, apparently referring to the Trump 2020 campaign strategist.

    continues....

The problem with the “trump is a liar” argument is voters would need to have an advanced understanding of current events to identify and understand his lies. He also uses bluster to bully his lies, which makes him appear like a strong leader. I don’t believe undecided voters would get those two points above like left leaning AMT readers.

But when Biden or anyone on his team tries to deny his health issues, they look like a complete  liar on the spot. Everyone immediately gets it, except those deeply embedded in their support for Joe.

No knowledge or understanding necessary. Undecided folks that don’t really follow political news can immediately call out Joe or anyone on his team and identify them as telling a significant lie in real time.

And far as those 34 convictions go, Eddie should retire the Payton jersey he again wore last night. With the Court obviously in his back pocket, that only gives trump more strength when he calls that a witch hunt.

biden has already lost the honesty argument to trump, and the criminal card is fading fast.

Gee, not entirely far off. Haha forget about nailing it.

Instead of an election about Bidens record and fighting authoritarianism, it’s going to be about Bidens mental competency.

Dr Gupta (neurosurgeon) from CNN indicated  several concerns with Bidens debate performance  “confused rambling; sudden loss of concentration in the middle of a sentence; halting speech and absence of facial animation, resulting at times in a flat, open-mouthed expression.” They are also reporting Parkinson’s expert visited WH many times recently.

Biden claims his cold was so bad he almost fell asleep at the podium. If that were so, he should have apologized on the spot to the camera and explained what was happening. Surely nearly falling asleep during a pivotal debate live with trump on stage warranted Biden to immediately address the issue.

And now Biden is trying to bully the party to fall in line.

we are getting gaslit by the democrats. Maybe it’s time to roll the dice with the gop because I don’t trust anything coming out of the democrats right now

@The Juggler can we please have the title changed as his felonies will clearly be voided by Trump v US.
You think that falsifying business records for payments of hush money made before you were president is an official act of the president?
Lerx likely doesn't but Trump does. That is why his sentencing is pushed back a couple months.

Supreme court has muddied up the waters.

Actually…Hope Hicks had a key White House job and her testimony also was key for the prosecution. Good chance a federal court throws out the verdict based on that alone.

The fact that NY immediately delayed sentencing two months speaks loudly here.
The crime is the falsifying of business records, not the reimbursement of Michael Cohen. The crime happened in 2016 before the election. Indeed, the underlying act that made this a felony was that the crime was undertaken to influence the election-- the 2016 election. By definition, it cannot be an official act of the president if Trump was not yet president when he committed the crime. Hope Hicks' testimony does not change this. Her testimony is relevant to the extent that it sheds light on what Trump's state of mind was in 2016 when the crime was committed.

The delayed sentencing is a smart judge doing his due diligence. If this verdict is going to be vacated, I doubt it will be by Justice Merchan.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Sanjay Gupta has not examined the president. His opinion on this is about as informed as Doogie Howser's. The Parkinson's expert visited the White House many times during the Obama administration as well, and Biden just signed a bill to advance research to find a cure for Parkinson's last week.

Your last sentence is bizarre. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but I can see that there are many Democrats, elected and otherwise, who are publicly raising concerns about Biden's fitness for office. How is that gaslighting? Meanwhile, the Republican party, its elected officials and entire apparatus-- including the RNC now being run by Trump's daughter-in-law, for Christ's sake-- are in lockstep behind their pathologically-lying, civilly-adjudged rapist, criminally-adjudged felon and malignant narcissist who spouts nonsense whenever he opens his mouth. And you don't trust the Democrats?! You want to roll the dice on what? Democracy? Women's rights? Christian nationalism? NATO?

It's a bizarre response even for the ever pessimistic Lerxst. Any person who actually understands politics knows this isn't a lesser of 2 evils situation like it's trying to be peddled. I expect people to have concerns about Biden, but then actually consider what the administration has done and the people making the important decisions around him. I am 💯 percent certain the Biden admin won't completely fuck over the country for their own self interests or green disease. This isn't a fucking coin flip.

It’s apparent that the administration has been dishonest, and the problem is voters do not need a fact check to observe the lies.

As far as Dr Gupta comments, of course he can’t make a diagnosis of Bidens condition, but as he states, there is something more significant about Bidens condition than “just a bad debate performance.” That’s just more misinformation from the Dems

The only way Biden wins is if voters accept his diminished state. Polling strongly suggests they do not, and Bidens path to victory is extremely narrow

With the Court obviously in his back pocket, that only gives trump more strength when he calls that a witch hunt.

biden has already lost the honesty argument to trump, and the criminal card is fading fast.
    so vote for trump then?
Why would that be the response?

You may not agree with what he's saying, but the argument he is making is not entirely far off. Times are dire at the moment.

While I am not very optimistic right now, that's clearly not the only way he wins. There are many variables that still exist...and the economy is still an enormous factor. It is better than most people realize, but if we get some better CPI news this week and in the coming months, along with a fed rate cut either later this month and or in September, that would definitely boost Biden's chances.
